Why so many "not set" keywords Analytics ?

Why do most of my google hits come from "not set" keywords?

No idea on why, Google is... well.... Google... do what they like. What you can do is change analytics.... If you want a similar interface to google analytics with added bonuses of heatmaps and visitor action playback function, look for "open web analytics".

You have to download it and install it on your hosting though. It is FREE though

If you can't be bothered with the hassle of setting it up and you are using wordpress as the platform for your sites/blogs, then you can get a plugin called SEO Power i think. Cant remember if its paid or not, but on one of my sites it shows the keyword analytics and the "not set" keyword that g analytics displays, it is shown using SEO Power.

Because human serach orginic keywords, some kind of typo keyword in search engine.

Google not set comes mostly from visitors logged into a Google account. Instead of Google passing the search phrase used to find the site they send a blank query string. Well it's not exactly blank but blank to viewers of GA.

Log into a Google account and do some searches. Copy and paste some of the links in notepad and you'll see the query string of the link looks like this:

q=&esrc=s

to most Analytic programs that's a blank query or not set query

The answer is actually two fold.

1) Google Analytics stopped reporting on a lot of the keywords coming through since last year or the year before
2) Users on Apple mobile devices (tablets and smartphones) will not have the keywords reported

Yes I believe this is the correct answer. I thin google wants to or has to keep their logged in clients data anonymous.. or something like that which is why they probably share less information about them. Doesn't really make sense IMO but well.. what does make sense with Google?

Most of "not set" is usually because users have turned on privacy, which prevents reporting their searched keywords to GA.

It has been happening a lot since an year or so. You don't have all the searches reported in GA. You got to live with it now
