well Godaddy charges more for second year registration, so I am not sure why everyone goes for Godaddy,
and you need to transfer domain in second year?

There are many coupons out there for discounted renewals too, I often pay $7.50 or so per year, I do hate them though, but for vanilla projects and to save a little when I get stuff for clients, they're pretty good! and it's easy to transfer to another registrar if you don't find a coupon and you save a few bucks too
