Hey I just learned about Bitcoin and Litecoin and they're blowing my mind. I love the concept! I strongly dislike Paypal!!!! They're a terrible service and have screwed me out of about 3k, so I love what Btc and Ltc are doing, I believe it is the future of currency. I believe I have missed the bus on Bitcoin, but Litecoin looks promising too. I was wondering if anyone mines litecoins, has a litecoin rig build instructions and/or tips, or has a litecoin rig for sale? Any info on either bitcoin or litecoin would be apprciated, also any opinions or comments concerning the two. Thanks...

I thought this should be under making money topic but I didn't see a topic in making money this topic really fit under...just let me know please. I dont want everyone cussing mad cause I posted something in the wrong place...=)

What's litecoin?

What's litecoin?

Litecoin is a peer-to-peer Internet currency that enables instant payments to anyone in the world. It differs from its parent Bitcoin in that can be efficiently mined with consumer-grade hardware. Litecoin provides faster confirmations (targeted at every 2.5 minutes on average) and uses memory-hard, scrypt-based mining to target the CPUs and GPUs most people already have. The Litecoin network is scheduled to produce four times as many currency units as Bitcoin.

One of the aims of Litecoin was to provide a mining algorithm that could run at the same time, on the same hardware used to mine bitcoins. With the rise of specialized ASICs for Bitcoin, Litecoin continues to satisify these goals. It is unlikely for FPGA or ASIC mining to take over Litecoin until the currency is widely used.

How powerful is the rig you're looking for (in k/hashes per sec)? We might have a deal for you.

A spinoff of Bitcoin but with more blocks being offered. Hasnt quite caught on yet like bitcoin.

I don't think it will. I don't see it becoming as large as Bitcoin unless it has some significant advantages over Bitcoin.

I wouldn't bother with litecoin, stick to bitcoins. However when ASIC miners being released it is becoming harder and much more expensive to mine, without expensive equipment.

There's other ways to earn bitcoins such as cur.lv and selling stuff for bitcoins. Its not to late to get into bitcoins, lol. Its like saying its to late to make money in $ or euros.

It's late if you want to make millions from pennies.

I understand that...I'm saying, I don't think mining them would be profitable...do you? I am at ground zero, I'd have to purchase a rig, learn how to use it, cost of electric bill, every second bitcoins get harder to obtain, etc...

While on the other hand, I don't feel like litecoin will ever blow up like bitcoin has but...I feel being at ground level right now (pretty much) we could make a nice profit, or stack a fat wallet full of LTC to watch gain value.

I'm just looking for something to start with. I've never built a computer or anything. I just thought that right now I could get a decent rig and try the bitcoin thing and/or mine some litecoins and stack some up hopefully. What do you got? How much? Estimated output in BTC, and LTC? Thanks

I just tried mining litecoins on my desktop which has 2 6870 ati cards. Unlike bitcoin, litecoin seems to use WAYYY more memory which makes it impossible to work on SEO.

Hey guys, I've created a Bitcoin group for such talks so that all information can be compiled in one place which could be very beneficial to some.

I know this thread is about Litecoin but Litecoin is basically a spin off from Bitcoins. Anyway feel free to join the group: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/groups/bhw-bitcoin-group.html

Hi there. I have built a Lite Coin Rig that is mining for Lite Coins right now. Its a dedicated server that mines 24/7. My current hash rate for this machine is just over 1000kh/ps.
Im building a 2nd mining rig soon to double my hash rate.

This is the spec for the machine I put together:
2 x Sapphire AMD HD7950 Flex OC Graphics Card - 3GB (GPU's) - These GPUs are good for mining as they have a low power consumption but high hash rate

Cool Master RC-902XB-KKN1 HAF XB CASE - This case rocks

Sandisk 64GB SSD - Solid State Drive - SDSSDP-064G-G25 - A quick 64Gb hard disk with enough space for the OS and mining tools

CORSAIR 850W CMPSU-850AXUK - A top end PSU that will easily power 2 x GPU's

16GB (2x8GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance, PC3-12800 (1600),Non-ECC Unbuffered - 16Gb Memory. (only 8gb is needed. This is overkill)

AMD Sempron 190 Dual Core Processor - Low wattage CPU ( Only 45 watts )
MSI 990FXA-GD65 AMD 990FX MoBo - Motherboard that supports 2 x PCI-e 16 Cards. These ports are required for the 2 x GPUs

Noctua NH-U9B SE2 Dual Fan - After Market Fan to cool down CPU. Better than stock fan.

This Rig is running Xubuntu and Cgminer. Its currently pulling just over 1000kh/ps. Power usage maxes out at around 600 watts. This machine will mine between 2.5 and 3 coins every 24 hours at the current difficulty.

Next week I will be building a 2nd rig to double this hash rate. There is still time to make some cash with Lite Coins folks. If you have any queries on the system builds let me know.

Litecoin is ok because it is resistant to ASICs (for now). Once ASICs land hard, people are going to move to LTC. Once they moved there, they will have more LTC then BTC and services will have to support LTC in order to get customers.
Since cryptocurrencies are protocols, costs for switching from one to another is really low and can happen over night (exaggeration, but you get what I mean).

check out bitcointalk forums...they have litecoin info there also and you can get help on a rig build

Im not sure litecoin has the same hype as bitcoin right now. I couldnt even find an exchange for it.

Tulip mania II continues.

It would make more sense to get what would be a nice build for litecoin mining, and use it to do video editing, photo editing projects. And then spend 1/3 the earnings on litecoins, you could earn several times as much litecoins this way then actually mining, based on the current price.
