Backlinks count - A question

Newbie question here....when a site is analysed and it say has 10,000 links, is this 10,000 direct links to the money site or is this the count of links through links, e.g. count of tier 2 and 3 pointing to tier 1 pointing to moneysite?

I'm doing a lot of reading on here and I am reading stories of websites less than a year old having 100k plus baclinks, makes me wonder why anyone would even bother to pay an SEO company for a few hundred links per month?

Because they're not smart enough like you to find their way to BHW. Just so you know Google is pulling down the ranking plug on all sites that rank high with spammy backlink profile on every algorithm update. A site may rank on top of the SERPs temporarily with a SB/Xrumer blast but it won't hold the ranking any long. SAPE links are selling like hot cakes now but Matt Cutts said that there will be a bigger Penguin update this year which will wipe em out.

Ah well thanks for the compliment, but after my reading on here I am getting more inclined to churn and burn whilst I built up a domain with authority on the site...I have sat in my office for too many days lately with the phone not ringing like it used to.

I have unique articles ready to go which all come up 60%+ over at least 50 copies, which from a few tests seems to be as good as it will get over 500. Do you think its a good idea to blast this article over all mediums available on UltimateDemon? and see what happens?

Give it a go if it's a niche site. I wouldn't risk if it's a local business site because all you would want to do is wipe out the backlink traces later if your site got hit by a penalty. Instead of simply loading the articles on UD and let it spam all over the web., Take some time to add some related pics & videos to the articles and spread your Anchor text keywords evenly.

It is just the links to your site, not the tier2/3 ones.

You should also see how many links you have from unique root domains.

I mean, one sitewide link such as a blogroll can be counted as 1000 links if that site has 1k pages.

I have read that a sitewide link is not that valuable? or is it?

If so whats the best way to get those?
