I have a Virus on my computer please help!!

Today my computer became infected with the "This website has been blocked for you...complete a survey" virus.
I have tried quite a few programs to get rid of it but nothing has worked. Is there anyone who can help me with this? I am desperate because I really would like to not wipe my computer entirely. Thanks for any help.
I'm not sure which section of the forum this belongs in...

Use the https://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk. It's free, you just need a CD to burn it on.

First try to clear the cookies or just do a system restore to earlier working date will clear the things.

Edit: it is a browser helper object doing this. Run the browser with "no addons" and you can bypass it for now

Have you tried combofix?

Try this.

1. Download malwarebytes (free version) and run it 1 time.
2. Then download combofix (but do not run).
3. Restart your computer into "safemode with networking"
4. Run malwarebytes one more time
5. Then run combofix and let it run its course
6. When your computer restarts for the last time, download ccleaner and run it to get rid of all cookies and cache
7. Also run the registry cleaner part to clean up the bad keys

That should do it

You can search for "Antivirus LiveCD's" on google. Find a good one, then use unetbootin to burn it to a usb or disk. Then plug it into your computer. Restart. Press the key for boot menu (example: F12) then select your usb. You should be able to do the rest!

I had something similar called the google redirect virus. I'm sure you can guess what it is. I imagine the people behind this scheme are making bank from the CPA companies and such. Anyways, I tried absolutely everything including different programs like combofix but it was still there. I lucked out because I don't know how but my computer had set up a recovery point just a few days earlier with the previous one being over a year ago. I just went ahead and restored it back to that point and the virus was gone. Check your restore/recovery points. Maybe you can get the same luck.

Restore points are only a temporary fix (if any). If it does work, the virus will eventually come back because most viruses also hide their files in the system restore..... Then there is the nasty viruses that actually completely cut off your system restore.....

Anyways, I wouldn't use restore (at least not without also running antivirus)

I wouldn't risk just downloading a program to clean the virus. Formatting is a must IMO.

I usually just reformat the computer. For me, programs never seem to totally get rid of the virus.

Get a free copy of superantispyware.com That has gotten stuff of of my kid's computer that paid anti spyware services like Norton, McAfee, etc. wanted to charge extra for and saved me from reformating his harddrive. $%#&^# gamers!

The old "everytime I try the internet, it won't let me go" trick.
My peoples use to cop this a good bit. Kinda comes from goin' places you shouldn't be goin' or BS sites.
Depending on the windows OS look for the malicious tool removal from windows. Type it in on a google search and it should pop right up. If you runnin' 7 or Vista this will most likely work.

Heads up:
might need to get the tool from another pc since it's hard to get it with a infected one. Not saying it's impossible but hard as hell.

I just recently had this problem(not the same virus), literally 2 days ago. I know it sucks. I tried removing the virus manually but the computer still wasn't acting right. Dang Norton antivirus is good for nothing. I think I found this out a little bit later than everyone else lol. Anyway, I uploaded all of my important stuff to skydrive and had to reformat. It was the only way. My computer is working great now. I know it seems like a pain in the butt, but it's well worth it to reformat like the others have said. After it's all over with you'll be glad you did it, I definitely was. If not, you can look into manually removing your virus. You can find some videos on YouTube that can show you how. Good luck.
