On a serious note, it is extremely unlikely that anyone has paid or will pay the $80k for that site. Even if the BIN bid wasn't a shill (don't ask me what would be the motivation behind shilling a BIN - perhaps that the auction was about to end and by shilling it he could relist and claim that it sold previously for 80k but the bidder didn't pay? who knows) then the chances that the winner isn't just another non-paying bidder are extremely slim. This kind of guys can pull off $2,000 scams on Flippa as there's a lot of gullible buyers out there to pay a few grand for a nice story but at an $80k price tag stuff like this doesn't work.

Like with most transactions, it depends.

It depends on how the deal was set up, it depends on whether the payment method that you used is reversible or not, it depends on whether there was a contract and how good the contract is, it depends on both your and the seller's jurisdiction.

Generally speaking, in most cases you will be out of luck due to the fact that no seller will guarantee future income of the property (nor could they be expected to guarantee it). So even if there was a decent contract in place and you get the chance to bring the seller to the court, the burden of proof that it was indeed a scam, rather than a legitimate site that tanked due to external circumstances, lies on you. Mind you though, even if you will indeed take the seller to court and can prove it that it was a fraud, then the proceedings will take many years, after which there often simply isn't anything left to recover.

So all in all, just do your due diligence BEFORE buying, when in doubt back out from the deal (no matter how attractive the deal seems) and you won't have this kind of issues to deal with in the first place.

Also, I personally know some millionaires with absolutely no clue about the internet so if someone convinced a clueless millionaire (way more common than you'd think) that this was a good deal, this could be a legitimate sale.

Unless geeksunion wanted a shill $80k sale to build up his flippa rep, who knows, would be stupid but possible.

Well, as to me, anyone who seems to hurriedly try to sell their website with no valid reason is scam. $80,000 per month and sold for $80k doesn't sound like normal people would do if they built that website themselves.

Scammers are everywhere, be careful.

Looks like a scam, for sure. It's pretty much impossible to believe that anyone would pay $80k for a site that seems dodgy, and just as hard to believe that someone making that per month from the site would go through the process and the inevitable escrow, wait and possible claimbacks all for the purpose of definitively selling it for that one-time flat fee. Good for Thimas though, he deserves that windfall.
