Can anybody explain why this site ranks above mine?

Hi Guys just wondering if somebody could answer this question for me.
I work for a company cally Printdot, our website is printdot.co.uk
When i type "printdot" into google.co.uk our site shows up in position #2
The website in #1 is printdotcom.ca
Obviously we both have the word "printdot" in the title and most likely mention it a fair few times on the homepage itself.
However if i examine both sites with majesticseo i can see our site has a citation flow of 29 a trust flow of 30 and 104 backlinks from 42 referring domains,
and their site has a citation flow of 19, trust flow of 7 with 11 backlinks from 7 referring domains.
As far as i can tell our site should have more trust, more authority and more relevance to google than theirs, so why does it appear above ours?

any help would be much appreciated.

They seem to be getting there links from a load of restaurant review sites so may have a strong network pointing at them. In saying that there is no reason why your site should be outranked. But if google did hand out first place to the most deserving candidates then who would buy their ads ? Its companies like your that lie frustrated in 2nd to 5th spot who they are being targeted to spend money.

ok so their site is 3 years 11 months old, ours is 1 year 2 months i can understand that age may play a role in search position but i would have thought that google would really be favoring sites with more relevance eg a .co.uk website when searching on the uk google platform rather than an older website from another country?

That's a good point which i hadn't really considered Duffers, i would have thought that, that would undermine their whole idea of "good" seo and sem to clean up search rankings and deliver the most relevant content to their users.

Ok i understand, i was thinking that because in google ranking my site shows up as "Printdot: Trade Discount On Large Format Printing, Banners And Signs" that i didn't need to add printdot in again.
If this is not the case then that's fine.
If i am to change this now will i see the results right away or will i need to wait for google to re-crawl my site?
I assume the later by worth asking.

This has led me to another question regarding this now, if i take the title tag as it is now of my home page and search google for "trade large format printing printdot" which should match up pretty well with my homepage i get a load of other pages ahead of mine, some of which are our blog, and other pages we have around like directories, however the first mention of my website is the how to order page which has a less relevant title tag??

i really don't understand why?

I cant give you a definitive answer on when you will hit number 1. Your site is a very good looking site and I have only glanced at your competitors and their site looks ok...maybe they are a big US company ?

All I know is if I want to rank for one particular term then I laser focus my site toward that keyword. The first place to start is your title and I have got good results fast from optimising my titles in a short time.

You obviously know how to construct a title tag but it should be leading with printdot....Something like "printdot.co.uk the uks leading printdot specialist" (altough withing 60 characters

Richard, I have PM'd you my thoughts on this, I would certainly agree with many in that I usually target my sites main keyword at the start of the domain, Just put your website PrintDot | RestOfContentHere
With your description, mention your site name a couple of times, go on google webmaster tools, submit root of your site into index and fetch all pages and then wait and see , Ping the pages with an indexer tool and you should see changes in around a week depending on how often google indexes your site.

Do some link building with "printdot" as one of your keywords. Do it smart and make it look as natural as possible.

I can't get to your facebook page - your link is asking me to log into facebook - it should go right to your facebook page
On that facebook page - do the same link building as above

You only have 6 tweets - use that account and do some link building to it as well.

Blog looks good - but you should add your business name, address, and phone number to the footer
Do a blog post about being number #2 on Google and use "printdot" in the title and in the text. Do some link building to that particular post.
Do a little personal campaign - it's silly but it will give you something write about that is focused on that keyword (like mentioned above) post - facebook the post - tweet the post - links to the post.

New post on the blog every two weeks. You could also host those post somewhere on your main site.

Post - promote on facebook - tweet the post - repeat
Links - build links (or hire someone on fiverr to do a few runs)

Does the number of clicks on a URL have anything to do with the ranking on the serp page in Google?
While Google does not say yes or no they do provide the info in the analytic's portion of their webmaster tools?

This may not be the only reason, but it is definately a factor.

Other than the above you can also put Printdot in the description. Instead of "We are a ____" maybe "Printdot is ____".

It is interesting. Please post if the title/description works. I think if you asked someone at Google they would say - off record - that your site should rank above theirs... it is more relevant. Unfortunately... Google has a zoo... LOL

actually i've just thought, nobody has had a stab at explaining why some of my pages don't rank near the top for very prescise keywords for example "trade large format printing printdot" which should be the closest match to my homepage totle tag possible.
I know som eo fyou have mentioned domain age etc which might be a reason however i have another page (the how to place an order) page which ranks way above the homepage for this keyword even though less words match in the title.

I have my own theory on why this is and it is all to do with the shopping cart software i am using, i use opencart and the homepage is part of the shopping cart package as are all the catergory pages and products pages, non eof which rank well for any of their long tail very specific keywords.
However i have a few pages which were created seperately from the shopping cart package and they are the pages which are ranking well even for keywords much closer related to shopping cart pages.

This means that for some reason google isn't liking the way opencart does it's pages. What i don't know is why this might be or if there is any way to solve this.
I tried asking on the opencart forum and the guys there didn't seems to understand what i was asking.
I know the pages are indexed by google i just want to know why they don't show up where they should and pages i have created do?
