WP blogs with own domain names?

In terms of SEO, is it better to use a self hosted WordPress blog with your own domain name, or is it OK to use the free hosted WP blogs that they offer (sorry I can't actually post the URL lol)?

I always thought using a domain is better, but some people I know think it doesn't make any difference??

If it's just SEO I think there is no difference. If it is anything else+ SEO it makes a difference

100% your own domain is vital for seo. Control over your own domain makes gives you url structure making it easier for a search engine to crawl = important for SEO

you can use your own domain with WP- hosted blog. I Think it's for a small fee of 18 bucks a year. I use this for smaller blogs. It's great as WP takes care of script updates. No more headaches with script issues.
