Call me sadistic, but one of the things I really enjoy is finding people creating new accounts who spam the forum with low quality, useless posts, often bumping years-old threads, making posts successively one minute after another ... and bestowing the gift of negative rep.

My rep just increased enough that I can give a -10, instantly reducing these freshly created post-farming accounts to 0 rep.

There's no reason to be bumping old threads, or contributing to new threads without even reading them.

Hopefully this thread will be a deterrent for the people behind the many accounts that are created like this.

Exactly. Why do people need to spam up a brand new account so quickly anyways? Either they're working up the post count to spam links, or engage in business with a disposable account.

Even if they have good intentions (if there could be), its a serious pain in the ass to have a 4 year post bumped with a brainless crappy 1 liner.

but i remember my early days when I use to post on threads regardless of when they were posted. I signed up on BHW only to be able to search for gold(search restrictions). I found few threads related to my query but i was not acquainted to the forum to determine if its OK to post here or no. My first impression of BHW was people help each other and I posted thinking I'll be helped too.. Back then I didn't know What the heck are forums and it rules. I m sure I might have done something at that time which I won't like anyone else doing it now.. But it takes time for people to learn. If at all i was neg repped by you initially I would have been a joke on the forum and it wouldn't have taken much time to go in negative reps. No one would have answered my queries and I could have become a troll material and moved on from BHW

Again I thank you for coming up with this good initiative but i also request you to check their previous posts and then decide if they are worth neg repping. Its really difficult to determine if someone is spamming purposely or unknowingly but I trust it will help to keep the forum clean.

My best suggestion will be create a verbatim for everyone to post on the old bumped thread or PM that member who is supposedly spamming. If he stops it he's good if no.. We know what to do.

@shailzrocks, obviously you're a quality member now, and even if you did annoying things in the past I doubt it'd be neg-rep-worthy.

I'm not going wild neg repping everyone, in fact even when someone is trolling me I wouldn't neg rep.

These new-account-farmers, on the other hand, they have a number of things stacked against them.

- they're bumping year old threads, wasting people's time reading and responding to things that aren't even relevant today
- they're clogging up the forum with worthless posts. just today I was reading people wanting to make a "best posts" area of BHW, because its too hard to find quality posts. all the low quality posts to bump post count makes that problem worse
- what are they doing that they need to bypass the forum filters that disallow posting links, their only purpose of having an account is to post links? or they just need to send PMs asap? the forum filters are there for a purpose

And then the biggest fear is that they're setting up a scam, farming a new account with lots of posts with intent to solicit business outside of BST thread or to spam.

So I don't think future-legit-members are at risk.

I do the same, you can tell which people have made a genuine mistake by bumping old threads because they usually write something relating to the original post the other mofo's usually respond with "thanks" or "great info" or some BS like that.

Actaully I think this is the best filter test to this altogether. Is the reply relevant to the original post. I have even searched things in BHW and found a post wasnt paying attention to how old it was and asked a question or added my two cents. lol. I think at some point everyone makes that mistake.

Yeah but when you're making 1 post every minute 15 times in a row, that means you're trying to do something fishy, against forum rules and just plain irritating. Making a mistake here and there isn't the same thing.

Would agree with php's good assessment of noobs that post just to get to the 15 mark. I remember taking a couple of weeks before I got there because I didn't want to contribute to crap and sometime I want to be JR Vip with quality posts.

It's not a hard set rule but Mods can slap if they think it's excessive. I have a bad habit of typing how I talk and those that know me know I'm colorful at times. I try not be offensive but I slip here and there and so far no slaps but I've seen a Mod or two post that if it gets out of hand it's against the rules.

This thread made me laugh, but honestly, that's what these dumbasses get for flooding the forums with useless posts so their post count will go up a little. We've got new members trying to learn things and seasoned members trying to keep up on things. We don't need irrelevant replies to good OP's.

I've been seeing some new accounts pop in and spam their forum on every post they make. It's not subtle or adding value to the threads. I like the idea of marking the spam accounts with a cheerio so people can quickly identify they are trolls. I could only take 4 so I never bother.
