That's awesome that you think this, but you're wrong.
I just neg repped you btw.
I don't appreciate when people insult others AND are talking out of their ass.

The website itself can't see the MAC, but it is possible to track you by your MAC.

Why are you neg repping ? You just confirmed he was right by saying the website cant see the MAC ?
Of course you can be tracked by MAC, but if the website cant see the MAC then it cant track you by MAC.
You should give the rep back !

Hey George, nice to meet you.
As I've already explained in quite a lot of technical detail above, it is not possible to track someone over the internet by their MAC address without client-side installed software. It's pretty evident from your post that you lack the necessary intelligence to understand that (or maybe even read the thread!) so I'll explain it to you here again using a real life scenario instead of 'tacos' - understandably that may have confused you..

So let's say your girlfriend sends me some topless photos of herself 'thinking of me' (again!).
When she takes the photo with the camera, the camera stores some EXIF data with the images.
When she transfers these to her computer, the image retains the EXIF data and is still there on the JPEG on her desktop.
However, when she prints the image off (the photo-quality paper always makes a nice touch!), the printer does not store the EXIF data on the image, because it would be useless data - these are 'stripped' (it's called a pun, Google it) from the image because they are not necessary for the transport or use of the data!

When she comes over and posts the photos through my mailbox, I have absolutely no way of finding out the EXIF data from the camera because it was never included in the data transfer. It doesn't matter if I know where your girlfriend lives, or even if she took the beautiful pictures of herself with a 20MP camera - there is no possible way for me to discover that EXIF data.

However, if I really wanted to find the EXIF data for some reason, it would be possible for me to obtain it 'client-side', so for example next time you're at work I come around to have some tacos and 'borrow' the camera from your girlfriend (although there would probably be a fair few more examples of EXIF data to take with me when I leave!).

Substitute your girlfriends camera for a browser, and EXIF data for a MAC address, then you've pretty much got an explanation why MAC addresses aren't transferred over the Internet.

Don't bother posting some pointless comment like 'omg noob no i r like good with internet marketoring, macs can be tracked because their lyke made by apple d00d!', either show me some tangible proof that a MAC address can be tracked by a web-server without client-side interaction or, frankly, go fuck yourself. We don't need ignorant people like you abusing the negative-rep system just because they're upset someone proved them wrong.

EDIT:
Oh and by the by, I presume you also neg-repped Tacopalypse for disagreeing with you too?
there's not a single website on the internet that can answer "what is my mac address". if it was at all possible, you'd think somebody would have done it by now.

EDIT2:
And also, I've been communicating a lot further with the OP helping him to solve his problem via PM, I would encourage you to do the same but I'm pretty sure you'd do more harm than good.

I have had a long time interest in hacking and computer security. JFoulds explanation concerning MAC Addresses is absolutely correct.
The only way of a website obtaining the MAC Address is via JavaScript or Java calls otherwise the MAC Address of your computer is only broadcast/visible on your local WIRED network (If you are using a wireless network it can be monitored with simple tools such as a wireless sniffer, just as the wired network can be monitored with a packet sniffer/analyzer)

For a really simple explanation look here:

For an explanation of MAC spoofing look here:

If you wish to spoof your MAC Address use the following tools :

Just one other point; cable Internet companies do track the MAC address of the cable router, that's how they control access to their network.

JFoulds, I don't believe in insulting others unless they're out to scam people.

It's awesome that everyone here thinks that without actually doing it. You are correct, I'm not that tech savvy. Thinking is not doing. What I mean is, what accounts have you set up to avoid linking to the point where you determined that sites such as google and amazon do not track the MAC? I have a lot of experience with this.
I actually do this on a daily basis. I don't just argue on a forum, I do these things every day.

I know for a fact that Amazon tracks the MAC address on your computer. Not spoofing the MAC means one account per machine. Spoofing/changing the MAC means as many accounts as I have MAC addresses.

The only way of a website obtaining the MAC Address is via JavaScript or Java calls

Stole the words right out of my mouth. I'm sure no website would ever do that...

I rest my case. Good luck with your dick-swinging fest.

For christ's sake, you absolute fucking idiot.
Congratulations, you make accounts on Amazon, you still do not know the first thing about basic networking. I may as well say 'What proof do you have Amazon don't check your retina scan to see you haven't made more accounts?' - it doesn't matter that you don't have any proof because it is impossible.

Unless you install a signed Java applet it is not possible for a website to get your MAC address the only way for them to obtain your MAC address is by exploiting your browser and downloading software without your permission to the computer. And yes, I'm pretty fucking positive that no reputable websites do that.

I am sick and tired of trying to explain this to ignorant morons and flogging this dead horse, so I will say it here in big letters for the record:
It is not possible for a website to find your MAC address unless they either use an exploit to break into your computer illegally or you are running a Java applet from their website.

EDIT: Oh, and I have absolutely no qualms about insulting someone spreading ridiculous disinformation over my community.

Yep, more words, no action.

Go try it. Let me know what you find.

What are you even saying?
This makes literally no sense. Either find me any website which detects the MAC address of a user without downloading a Java applet or stop posting about things you do not understand.

You are continually contradicting yourself. If you admit to not being tech savvy, then stop pumping out this dis-information and only comment on matters you are savvy in.

For the last time, The MAC address cannot be passed to a website without some clientside code running on the local machine. Even if the website is Google or Amazon.

If Google is seeing your MAC address then it is because you have given them permission to do so via some toolbar or application for example.

The crux of this argument is whether a website can read the MAC address of your network adapter. The answer is 'NO'

JFoulds has said this from the very beginning. 100% correct.

You are wrong, get over it.

I'm saying you don't do this, so you don't know. You're just assuming.

It's no dis-information. It's real information from my day to practices of making new google and amazon accounts from the same machine. Changing the MAC, gives me another amazon account. Not changing the MAC gets that account shut down because it's linked to another account.
In the last month, I've actually narrowed it down to that.

I'm not going to continue to argue with someone that only assumes. You guys are clearly knowledgeable about this kind of thing and that's awesome, but you don't actually do it. Maybe instead of trying to prove someone wrong on the internet, you could give it a shot and see that you might be incorrect.

fucking fuck fuck fuck fuckity fuck - this makes me more correct

For the record, I deal with marketing on Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, YouTube, eBay and Google - including account creation. Unlike you I also have a working knowledge of networking and have actually worked directly with a number of the companies I just listed.
I am not assuming anything - I am factually correct.

Stop spreading your useless crap on this forum and stay the hell away from topics you do not understand.
The only thing you have succeeded in doing is showing everyone that you're an ignorant dumbass.

You won't make a new amazon seller account without a new MAC. The OP's site doesn't need a new MAC.

Other websites don't need a new MAC. Ebay for example, doesn't need a new MAC. It's needs a new ip, cookies, etc... but not a MAC.

You can call me names all you want, but the bottom line is I'm not the only one who actually does this and knows for a fact you need a new MAC for a new Amazon account.

You don't have to believe me, but you also don't have to make insults. It's a really immature way to try and get your point across. Idk, I was 15 once... it's cool.

Once banned by Adzenze,
this is how Google bans so many people AFTER they have set up another new and fresh Adzenze account.

And before an argument flares up, EVERY site, and EVERY app, owned by Google acts as spyware.

Alright then, right now, I will bet you $100 that I can create an Amazon seller account without spoofing my MAC address.
If you're so positive you're right then you'll have no issues taking my money - it's only like half an hour's work anyway.

Right?

I can make it, no problem. Will it last past the first sale? No...

Haha, alright yeah of course, as soon as I ask you to put your money where your mouth is you start throwing up bullshit excuses.
Fancy coming on BHW IRC? I'd love to discuss how you narrowed it down to just being your MAC address - you know, considering there is no way for Amazon to know that and all!

Furious George, I think whats happened is that you believe you have explored every other possibility and come to the conclusion its the MAC address that amazon is using to link you to multiple accounts. You may very well be 100% correct on this. Jfoulds is only saying (and he is 100% correct) Amazon have not been able to aquire youre MAC address purely by you visiting their website (which is what we are arguing about). If Amazon are tagging you by MAC address then you must inadvertently be giving it to them by some other means.

So I think everyone should take a moment to realise what we are arguing about.

First off, MAC address is not available to websites without a JAVA APPLET running. JAVA. Read again. JAVA. Not javascript. It's JAVA. Say it again with me boys and girls, Java. Java and Javascript are not even close to being similar besides in name and both essentially being code. You cannot obtain a MAC address from javascript, it breaks the browser security model.
http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/ebay/468151-mac-address-stealth-ebay-paypal.html

Now with that out of the way...
1) Your IP will be the same unless you use anonymous proxies/vpns.
2) Your browser fingerprint will be the same unless you get different versions
3) Your OS fingerprint will be the same unless you get different versions or OSes
4) Your screen resolution fingerprint will be the same unless you get different versions
5) Your unique identifier will be the same unless you use different computers for each login. Larger websites uses what is commonly referred to as "flash cookie". These are not normally deleted by the "delete cookies" feature since its not technically a cookie, just used as such. So you will need a plugin to delete "locally stored objects" as that is their technical name.

To fix these problems:
1) Use an anonymous proxy or VPN...
2) Use oldversion.com to get different versions.
3) There are many smaller patches for windows and each will change it
4) Use different resolutions.
5) Download an addon to delete them. You can also download a firefox addon called "noscript" which can block flash and other malicious javascript/flash apps from running automatically.
2-5) Firefox has an addon which I can't remember the name of, that changes all of this. Worth looking into if you actually need it.

Certainly a possibility.

edit- Just to be clear, I neg repped jfoulds because he keeps insulting people that have a different opinion. If he apologizes and stops acting like a teenager, I'll give him rep back.
