Actually selling on Amazon!

We've had products on Amazon for a while and we've been looking through to find out the best way to get them to rise in the ranks. In searching here on BHW, we've found most people are interested in creating affiliate sites with Amazon and not exactly the storefront or selling angle of it. If anyone has experience with ranking Amazon stores or items, or has tips / general guidelines for backlinking strategies, we'd love to hear about it!

If you want to rank websites in search engines, the process is pretty much the same, no matter what your website does (store, blog, etc.). You can check out the stickies in each sub forum, they cover pretty much huge chunks of SEO which should help you if you are looking to rank your website.

If you are looking to rank just your amazon pages, its a little different I think. I believe that the most important would be to make sure you have your keyword mentioned plenty of times in the title, description, image names, URL, etc.. I don't think building links to an amazon page will have much effect (idk.. if anyone can clear this up i'm also interested to know).

Ya I'm wondering about those differences as well. Can we be sandboxed ever for bad links? Does the KW profile for individual stores matter or can you spam a narrow KW list? Do we even need tiers?

If you plan on spamming your amazon pages, I don't think you'll ever be sandboxed, but I also don't think there would be any positive effect. That's why I say to focus hard on your "on page" optimization, make sure you have plenty of your KWs and long tails on it (that you are trying to rank for).

If you spam your individual affiliate store, yes, you can get sandboxed, even deindexed/blacklisted, so yes, you need tiers (web2.0s, social media pages, etc.).

Consider making a pumper site about your product and then linking to your amazon site. No affiliate links cause it is your own product

Another option is to also encourage views of your product and Amazon will take care of the search marketing for you onsite.

Appreciate it! Been a long time lurker, haven't posted enough for PM's, but will do. In the meantime, aren't there programs that simulate unique IP's for traffic? Anyone have success with these traffic simulators in ranking amazon sites?

Also, isn't the fact that it's already a high-PR domain a plus when trying to rank it?

If you are having a good product, you should also think to create your own affiliate program. It will be hard at the beginning but this is the long-term correct vision.

Having Amazon behind your back should help you to get ranks pretty fast if you don't spamm the shit out of those links and if the keyword are well-researched.

Are you selling a unique product?

If so i'd imagine you just need to work on the marketing of the thing.

If its just another xyz copy, then price + reviews would get more customers i'd imagine.

I'm also assuming most of your sales come from people typing in "product name" on the amazon page itself.

Well, optimally it would be great to hear about strategies for ranking in amazon as well as ranking in google. Likely they'll have completely different methods for ranking them and it'd be good to learn how to go about it.

For google ranking, it's tempting to use lbrown's grey-hat blog strategy and simply backlink it from blogs with better amounts of unique content.

As for amazon, admittedly I'm clueless - on ranking as well as improving seller ranking cheaply. Would make sense that reviews would help google searching because of there being more content to rank for, but does it help rank better in amazon?

im in the same boat, but it's actually easier then ranking personal sites.

The authority that amazon gives allows for you to rank it with less diversity, in less time. etc.

Essentially, you ARE amazon.com, you have a HUGE keyword profile and there's not much you can do to get sandboxed.


Google doesn't treat individual WIKI pages any different, it all feeds off the WIKI domain, which ranks naturally. SO, optimize the page according to strict panda rules, and go nuts with link building. Just make sure to follow your general outline that you'd use on your personal pages. IE; link diversity, generic anchors, naked, etc.

I've got a product worth MILLIONS I'm about to destroy the ranks with an amazon page.

Amazon pages are great to rank, you're piggy backing off a lot of TLD authority, just blast em with links and you'll shoot up!

To OP I'm a seller on Amazon and if you need help with getting your products to rank I can help you. As far as the Amazon Selling Coach I found somewhere else and its just a bunch of fluff with no real information if you are a seller.

Here's the key to ranking any product on amazon the black hat method.

If you have the money to do this here is the formula.

Sales,sales, sales

The way you do it is if its your own unique product you have to stimulate purchases quickly so if your item is ranked you need to push about 100 purchases really quickly to your product to get yourself to the top 10,000 in most categories but media as those sell more.

If you can get above 10k or below it i guess to 9,999 you can sell between 250-300 items a month with not to much effort.

In order to do you have to basically give amazon 15% on your purchases and wait the fourteen days to get your money and if its a physical product you need to be able to provide valid tracking information so that you don't get banned as a seller to for not delivering your item. As far as the buyers go they would all have to be different to go without getting banned as well as ordering from different ip to not cause suspicion by amazon.

Cost to get your item to top 10000 for a 20.00 item

100x20x15%=300
valid tracking information from usps =100x1.69 =1.69

so for about 500 dollars you can rank an item in the top 10,000 for a specific subcategory

Well ive said too much already more than anyone has ever told me on any site but there is so many niches on amazon that I dont really care who knows this info hope this helps and you need a lil bit of money to do what I just explained.
