I could say that about any TLD.
I noticed you can register them on namecheap now, so I wanted to start up a discussion about it.
Well, in terms of how it looks, it obviously looks like garbage and will have low resell value. Is it going to take off at any point and become a well used domain extension? No.
I'd only use it if I really needed to have a specific word as my exact domain name. I'd rather use all the normal but crappy extensions: .biz, .us, .info, even .pro.

You're 1000% right. I kind of thought it was terrible, I just needed to hear it from someone else.

Speaking of these weird TLDs, there's a .mi.th domain extension out there. My last name is Smith, so it's technically possible to get:

But they won't let you register one letter domain names. So close yet so far...

There's also .co.ke and .co.ck. Have fun coming up with domain hacks (that's what they're called) for those.

I remember when .xxx was released for porn sites, do sites even use those domains or did they just fail miserably...

Actually there is usage for the .us.com and maybe it will have the same weight or maybe better weight than .us. I have a few of these domains saved and some of them on actual clients and they are doing lots of business on local.
I have a .pro register for 5 years and is parked and performing awesome, looking forward to develop it sometimes this spring. I have 2 or 3 clients using .info and doing fine, I don't like the .info, or .me, even .mobi, the .biz is garbage.
There is nothing that Google loves more than a local business with a country extensions. I see guys with 1 page ranking #1 in google, and below organic they hold the #1 in local and it's just .us beating up sites with 500 articles blogs and gazillions of links.

Those are actually county-code domain extensions. They aren't "commercial" domains and usually try to stop guys like us from using their country's domain extension.
Lots of domain extensions are actually ccTLD's that have been sold and/or branded as a generic extension. Examples would be .tv and .co.
Same weight in terms of what? Good luck getting someone to type in localbusiness.us.com. People already have a hard enough time remembering the domain extensions of businesses with non-.coms, let alone a .com lookalike.
In terms of ranking though, you may be right. It's debatable how much of a difference generic domain extensions make, but you may be right on .us.com outranking .us.
Personally, I love .pro. It sounds awesome and really can be used for anything without looking like you just bought it because .com, .net, and .org weren't available.

I can see hard to type cheapchocolatecupcakesforalloccassions.us.com now many of the government agencies uses .us.gov or even the states .ny.gov and people seems to remember and use. It might not be the best scenario for a web based business but for a offline/online business I don't think it would be an issue. I am actually seen people promoting a subdomain in their windshield of some new product here in the state. Something like companyname.productname.groupname.com That is some serious long subdomains and they seem to be doing fine.
Again it might not be the perfect scenario for a web based business, but for a local ... at this moment in time I either have an erection or I just came up with a new idea of how to make money with the .us.com and a mix of 7878 letters.
