Hi all, I currently rent a VPS that I use with GSA SER, Scrapebox, GSA Captcha Breaker, Zennoposter and Xrumer as well as a few other smaller programs. I'm looking at a quad core Xeon with 16GB of RAM and I can't decide if an SSD would be helpful with this software. Anyone know if an SSD is worth the cost of $40 more per month with these tools?

I know that this is definitely the case for day to day tasks on my main computer, I have two SSDs on this computer and I love it. Does it really make a difference with SEO tools though?

when the programs are running they will be the same speed if you have an SSD or a normal HD. once they are running, all the necessary files for them to work are stored in RAM. however SSD should make the programs load quicker and make any file/program load quicker from the harddrive.

Most people use Zennoposter, Scrapebox and Gsa with proxies and Xrumer without proxies so i would buy 2 servers. One for Zennoposter, Scrapebox and Gsa + another for xrumer. Ovha.ca for Zenno, scrapebox and gsa (as long as you use proxies you dont need bulletproof provider) + bulletproof dedi or vps for XR. I dont know how you use XR but this thread can help you:

If you have decent internet connection and you dont live in a closet, you can get a decent PC for a 200-300$ that will be capable running all those tools at once.
Benefits - one time payment and machine is right there - reset button, remote desktop/etc
Drawbacks - fans are making noise, electricity consumption and bandwidth consumption
In my case, I am heating one of the rooms during winter with computers that run my tools. Pick your poison.

that's easy - connect to VPN and use it as your starting point... I mean, come on, it got to be cheaper than running a dedicated server in just a couple of months.P.S.
to run all that stuff you need a decent core duo 2.5-2.8Ghz machine with 4gig ram and 80Gb HDD - minimum, forget about graphic card, useless. No need for SSD/high end PC's. I have such machine doing most of my job with 300 threads on GSA. Just humming away on remote desktop.

I actually have a 3GHz Core 2 Quad system that doesn't get used much which would be perfect for this. Unfortunately my internet connection is only 3mbps as I live in a remote area. I'm quite certain that most ISPs have small caps in how much bandwidth you can use though right?
I know there's an advantage to running XR without proxies, but is using Xrumer with a VPN a bad idea too?

I have DSL - 10Mbps down and 1Mbps up, still works fine. You can monitor you bandwidth simply running command prompt (start->cmd) and putting in command like ping -t google.com - while nothing is going on (no porn torrents!) you should see some consistent numbers in ms all the time - try kick start GSA and see if those numbers start to flux/increase and you getting timeouts. If yes, reduce amount of threads, if no - leave as is. Just keep a bit of an eye on it.
GSA actually eats most of the threads/BW on verifying links while most CPU consumption goes to identification of keywords/etc.
I can guarantee that with your net and some 100 threads you should be fine with what you have without any affliction to remaining internet services (porn torrents

Thanks for the advice. I might be moving to NYC later this year so I'll have much faster internet there so I'll keep this in mind. In the meantime I will probably still need to go with a dedicated server since I need GSA to run 400+ threads since I have so many projects running with it in addition to Zennoposter.

True. If you are having a hard choice picking service provider, try advancedhosters.com - I have been using them to host my business (blog network platform - blogseries.com) for 13 years. Superb service, bandwidth and hardware while probably not the cheapest guys. Then again, if you are serious, these are your business tools. Good thing is, those guys can set you up pretty much anything... half windows, half BSD to run vpn/proxies/bots/sites/etc on same hardware. They are fantastic when it comes to customization. Just need to get in touch with them. New modern hardware (think brand new Dell server) might cost you around 250/mo but if you are serious, it is well worth it. In all these years I never wanted to switch my dedicated servers provider.
Thanks for the link. Their prices seem competitive with Singlehop with whom I currently have a VPS. I've loved the support offered with Singlehop and they offer 30TB bandwidth a month with their dedicated servers. Not sure if I'd ever need anywhere near 30TB of bandwidth though.

30TB = 50mbps 24hours a day. You can use such bandwitch only with xrumer and bulletproof dedi.
advancedhosters.com - they are bulletproof? If not they are overpriced. For 230$ you can get bulletproof Xeon E3-1240V2 with ssd and not bulletproof for ~100$.
That depends what are you doing. Mostly VPN is bad idea.
