Hello everyone,

Rather a nooby but specific question here.

I have a hard time deciding for what type of web hosting to go with either Linux or Windows. I plan to create a real estate website with MLS integration and payment module for rentals.

I am doing this kind of stuff for the first time. Therefore, please advise which one to choose and the reasons for doing so.

All the answers are greatly appreciated.

Cheers

M$ uses Linux servers. :)

Your best choice is cPanel Multiple Domain Linux hosting thus you have host many Unlimited) websites on one account. Look for AWSTAT, Daily backups, 5+ MySQL databases, 5+ add-on domains.

Looks like I will go after a Linux-based web hosting. Thanks for the suggestion!

To be honest while windows is reliable when it comes to server hosting, but you may want to get rid of the extra greedy OS layer which is consuming some ressources and may inherently creates some issues.

Also, it depends on the people you have at your disposal and their skill set to manage servers. Even though with cPanel it is almost a no brainer situation.

I use windows because I host multiple .NET driven web applications but for anything else I use linux.

What programming language and database are you planning to use? You shoul choose your Os/Server based on that.

Once Cpanel has now distribution for Windows I would say that it is the same.
You will not understand any difference

If forced to conjecture, I would say you are not using MS products. If this is the case then Linux will be a cerebral decision.
