I'd say its a combo of a few things.

1. Never hurts to buy a few real looking instagram followers (obviously don't go crazy here). Having 1000's of followers with only a handful of content will a) just look dodgy and b) look dodgy.
2. Get a few real followers from a reputable service or software... whatever works best for your budget.
3. Quality content and consistency.

3 simple steps with #3 being the MOST important.

Trust me on this... if you have just a small number of real followers and you post fresh, quality content daily along with liking some of your peer's content, you would be surprised as to how many new followers and likes you will gain.

Yes, building an account seems the way to go these days with IG. 28K followers, if all real, is a great example of building up an account. Good job! :biggthump

Thanks and just a general tip: spin your single account into multiple "shoutout" or "backup" accounts. For example, I have my main(28k) a shoutout(11k) and multiple joint(5-10k) after ~5000 legit followers, people will follow you out of curiosity

I've had my IG account since may. Never paid for a single follower and I have a little over 19k of them now. Instagram has to be the easiest site to become popular IMO.

All I EVER did on instagram was post good pics and tag them properly, and did tons of liking. Before the api updates you could like an unlimited # of pics per day on instagram, that's when I acquired the most followers, but even now with the limitations, liking photos related to my niche (music / entertainment) works well.

Really??? I've had my account for a while and I never paid for any followers too but even though I think I have enough pics on my account and look somewhat decent, I only have about 300 followers.. I really don't know what I should be doing.

Like thousands of photos daily, comment on a few hundred pics, follow/unfollow people. Like everyone have said, the quality of your photos is important. I've managed to get about 25k(main), 3k & another 3k in about a year.

Woow.... lol I don't think I'd be able to like thousands of photos daily due to work and school commitments. I'm pretty sure that the quality of my photos aren't bad, at least I don't think they are. Would there be any other methods you would recommend? =]
