Domain with brand name in it?

Hi fellows,

Wanted to if I can register a domain name with a brand name in it like:
1. -----ipad.com
2. ipad------.com
3. ---ipad--.com
or something like this.

Will there be any problem?
If yes, does having domain privacy/whois guard help avoiding any issues?

Well there is no problem on registering the domains, the problem will come when using the domain. It will all depend on what you are doing with it. But I'm pretty sure you gonna baby slap in tha face!

If you're concerned about a cease & desist letter or whatever, I doubt you'll have any issues. Large companies such as Apple usually won't take the time out to pursue little things issues like that unless your site becomes wildly famous and they feel like you're somehow stealing their money. I would say go for it. I have multiple domains that have "brand names" in them & rank page 1 on G that I'm sure the original companies wouldn't agree with what Im using them for & I haven't heard anything from anybody.

Actually, they will. Most brands company have lawyers just to go after people who take their brand name. They are protecting their money.

@Op : It depends on the Company and you Luck. But anyway they have the right any time to reclaim the domain.
I had a domain with LEGO brand name and they took it. They were nice people btw. And I was dealing with their lawyer. So, Why the trouble ....... !? It's not like all Domains out there has been taken !! and EMD doesn't have as much value as the past

Nope, eBay came after me and my site wasn't wildly popular. They have lawyers that all their job is to do is go after trademarked websites. It can and does happen, if you want to build a quality site that you put effort into I wouldn't do this. If it's a throw away site for quick money then go for it.

I actually do have a site with the Ipad trademark in it and never had a problem. Could they come after me? Of course they could, but odds are you will fly under the radar unless you get too popular.

Like someone said depends on the company, I had one with eBay and it got seized in a month, another I had with a bank company and they took it after 2 years, I still have some other though.

We had a court case about this and it turns out that "fuck . timkuik . org" is a brand name but www.fucktimkuik.org is not.

It also showed that privacy guard is not always guarding you so much...
Also, your host.... Make sure you don't make it too easy as most hosts will gladly comply with any complaint rendering your privacy guard useless.

Also, you don't always need to win in court to succeed. Just sue till they go broke seems to do the trick too.

Cos, iPad is just an example I mentioned. I'm planning to promote and site with tuts and other use full resources for a particular brand of a particular company. I don't want that domain any way after a few months, since the offer will be closed.

Just want to be safe out of any cases.
