For those of you that design/manage client websites, I need some opinions on which sites to go with.

For hosting multiple client websites, I was going to go with a HostGator reseller account, and for name registration, go with internetbs.

Suggestions?

Edit: If I'm going to be editing the site/making changes for clients and therefore do not separate login panels, shall I just go with a regular account? I can probably host 100's of different 3-5 page domains can't I?

I may have landed my first client, so need to get things sorted asap!

Personally, I'd go with the reseller account. That's what I use. If someone decides to no longer use you as their "webmaster," you can always try to retain them as a hosting client. That's not going to work if you have them as just another site on your own hosting account with no ability to access their own cpanel. It just keeps things "cleaner" so to speak if you just go with the reseller account. Not to mention, you can pay the monthly fee on a reseller package with just 1 to 2 clients.

It just keeps things "cleaner" so to speak if you just go with the reseller account. Not to mention, you can pay the monthly fee on a reseller package with just 1 to 2 clients.

But I guess if for any reason they want to end their web design/maintenance contract with, I don't see how they'll continue re the hosting. Most likely the new company that will take over their work will ask for the hosting to be shifted over too.

Typically if they want to end the web design/maintenance contract it's not because they want to go with someone else, it's because they don't feel the need to sink monthly maintenance into their website. They may be happy with managing it on their own or with just an non-updated electronic business card. Either way, you still make the monthly hosting fee that most people simply forget they're paying (if you set them up on auto pay).

A reseller account gives you more control over and makes it easier to manage client accounts. Also, IF they decide to go with someone else to manage their website - it will be easier to keep them as a hosting client by being able to give the new developer cpanel and ftp access and not the "let me know what access you need" problem.

I've been on the receiving end of this - where a previous host was stand off-ish about giving me cpanel access, only to find out he was using addon domains instead of individual cpanel accounts on a reseller account. I ended up taking their hosting business as well (whereas before I would have left them on their previous hosting)

Do this, you'll save yourself some trouble down the road.
