Getting started with a new site not really fitting in any niche.

Hey there,
I do have a question regarding a new site I am building right now.

So, I have been messing a lot with SEO (also BlackHat) the last few years. I was quite successful getting my sites up to #1. But then, Google came up with this Panda, Penguin or cockroach stuff and since then, I forgot about SEO and build up a site I had in mind for quite a while now.

However, I doesn't really fit into a niche since the idea is quite new and unsaturated. It's in the music niche though.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to promote a site entering a (probably) not exisiting niche?

You know surprisingly you might want to turn it into a brand and start pumping money to complete that process. If it is new and unsaturated that means that NOT a lot of money will be in that niche until YOU brand it and make it go viral. You got a lot of BST and room on here to grow, so work with a decent budget (even if you need to 9-5 it) and start turning that brand into a viral sensation.

Are you targeting specific keywords? take a deeper look into the people behind the keywords in order to find out if your site is giving the user what they want.

I am not quite sure if SEM is the right type of advertising for my site. Didn't think about keywords yet. But u guys made me think and that was my intention when opening this thread.

Well where do you intend to get traffic from? Through google organic listing? PPC? Social media sharing? Offline advertising? You have to get the fire going somehow and you need a plan.

Usually a website is answering a user's question and providing a solution(doesn't have to be a product, can be a community, or images, or simple information).
