Stay away from freelancer.com

its really your own fault for not maintaining your pre approved payments. If you stop using a site you should lg into your paypal and cancel their access to your account. nuff said

I have used Freelancer on numerous occasions as buyer and seller and I haven't experienced anything you guys talk about.

All fees that were taken, were announced and never was any money removed without my knowledge.

Last time I used them was a few months ago.

Keep in mind that I haven't used any of their membership benefits, so perhaps my experience is a tad different then yours.

(disclaimer: no, I am not in any way affiliated with Freelancer).

Oh hey there freelancer.com affiliate
How much do they pay you for selling your soul?

You're on BHW, and you imply that you have a soul? Wow, where can I get one?

And no, I'm not a shill for freelancer, they suck big time. But I don't have a problem using them if it makes business sense . I don't give a rats ass about 99% of what freelancer does, all the crap gets in the way. But the escrow works for me. And I'm prepared to pay a service fee for that. Just factor it into your calculations.

But since you're here and you seem to agree with the post title and have decided to take a swing at me, I have a serious question for you. Here's your opportunity to educate me and impress us all.

How do _you_ deal safely with strangers on the internet? You have something better than sites like Freelancer/Elance? Let's all learn from your wisdom. I'll be happy to switch to something else. Seriously, do you have an alternative?

Hi DJP

What category did you buy the ads in? Sounds like a low volume one. I'm happy to get you another 7 days for free if you want to try again. Just email the account manager quoting this email.

Regards
Matt

Hi Matt,

I have tried contact support for many times, your sales guy just removed me from skype.

It was SEO category.

Your sales guy was good of SELLING this thing, but when i started asking why he do not want me provide numbers - views for this category, he just ignored it.

If you Matt are real, i think you should prove it here! Not just coming and say that you are CEO of freelancer, I wouldn't work again with people who JUST support website, or try sell and promise wonders, in result we get nothing.

We learned the lesson.

And if you want help, i would work with you ONLY after you will prove that you are REAL CEO under this account. If you just want send me to your support, then i will pass, it is not worth my time... ;)

AND HERE IS THE GUY EMAIL WHO SOLD AD AND SUPPORTED US - [email protected]

I hope you will speak with him.

After reading the "scams against FreeLancer.com" messages on Google and BHW, I'm having a hard time believing that FreeLancer is any better than vWorker.

I do not like ODesk - as some sneaky contractors billed me without any real work on my past projects.

I'm glad to see MattBrrie being here on BHW, as I suspected that one of the moderators here on BHW brought him here, which is really a good thing.

Naturally, I'll be watching to see how mattbarrie is handling the issues here - before I can dip my toe in FreeLancer's pond.

One of the best alternatives - odesk. :)

Of course anywhere on such marketplaces there will be some fees, its fine, only thing you should be aware is working with other users, they can scam you anywhere. But based on our team members experience , there are a lot of good clients.

Very surprised to hear such negative points about Freelancer, it must have gone heavily downhill in the last few years.

From a outsourcer's perspective I can highly recommend Odesk.

There was a bug with freelancer taking money for membership upgrades recently, put in a support ticket or start a live chat and they'll issue you a refund.

"Congratulations! As a valued member, you have been given 30 days of Premium Membership absolutely Free. You will automatically return to your previous membership on DATE."

Rather than returning to the previous free membership after the 30 days they billed members for the continued premium membership...

I'm also got pissed off by doing some project that posted by someone there.

After we get a deal he pay me already and also i send him the project and he liked it. But the problem was coming after like 2 months when the payment is reversed to the Project Owner without any reason.

I tried to contact the Customer Support but i only got answer that really not solve the problems at all. The employer was only logged in on the date we make a deal and never comeback again to that site but the Support Team only told me to contact the freelancer to solve the problem.

The project has been sent already and the payment was processed also but why it reversed when the employer never comeback again ? Really disappointed with the system after all. Many people can easily register a duplicate account , then post fake project also.

It's getting close to midnight here in Sydney, but first thing tomorrow I will log in here and attempt to solve any problem that anyone here is having. Just supply your username in the post and I can have the right people address the issues.

Regards
Matt

Your company should stop scamming people otherwise some day your site might be pinged into oblivion... the times were people on the internet had to take everything are over!

I had a similar situation happen to me with Freelancer.com . Had some left over funds from paying for jobs and didn't log in for quite some time. When I returned they took the funds that were in the account for fees. That was enough for me to go elsewhere with my business

Hi DJP I told them to extend your campaign for another week for free (indexbear).

Hi Spreadem, that looks like the email we sent to Australian Paypal users. I've checked with the team and we can't see any bugs with the downgrade not happening- but if there is, just contact support and there will be a refund or I can do it for you if you give me your username. There are other free trial offers of memberships on the site which do recur at the same level if not cancelled, but this one wasn't one of them.

Wow really... WTF I always though these guy were supposed to be legit..... never mind!

Hi Guys

In running a business with 7 million people, there's always going to be some people that are unhappy for a variety of reasons. At Freelancer, we're working really hard to make it a great experience for all.
In a small token of support for the BHW community, I'm happy to provide $50 of credit no strings attached for the first 20 people that reply with their usernames so they can try the site out for themselves.
Just reply below.

How our business model works is that it is free to sign up for employers and free to post a project. Freelancers also can sign up for free and bid for free. We charge a project commission when you award
the project and pay the freelancer. This commission is between 0 and 3% for employers and 3% and 10% for freelancers depending on whether you are on a free plan or one of our membership plans
(which come with other features).

It's important that when you hire a freelancer that you only pay using milestone payments. This is like escrow. If something goes wrong that means you can always get your money back.
Don't release funds until you get the work that you want and you're happy with it.

Regards
Matt

I agree whole heartedly. Freelancer.com is garbage and they charged me for god knows what...but don't judge us Aussies too harshly!

Thinking about retracting my previous statement when I saw free money... I just can't do it. I really don't like freelancers pushiness.

Where we charge is pretty clear, the system doesn't randomly charge. There's a clear transaction history which is itemised. People seem to be most upset from what I can see about a) the freelancer not responding after awarding the project (and the commission being charged) and b) taking up free trial membership package and forgetting to cancel the recurring (but you can ask support for a refund without a problem). PS I hate that picture.
