Through one of the other posts on this board I came across ahrefs dot com which is by far superior to all the other services I was using before. With my free registration I get like 10 queries for free. That's more than enough for my current purposes but I'm already considering going for the paid subscription.

I'm from Germany and I was used to go with "German language" tools until recently. You might find backlinktest dot com helpful as well.

There are lot of tools available online for checking backlinks but you can try Backlinkwatch.com which is one of the best tool for checking backlink!! Try It!!

There are many tools, as suggested by others above. You could also use scrapebox with its add-on to get top 1000 links for any given page, which should be more than enough for some niches. Another good tool is backlink miner that retrieves backlinks data from multiple sources including seomoz, ahrefs, majestic and all.
