Does Akismet ban by url or ip? Manual comments not going through

This is for manual blog comments. I have never used auto-posting software. I don't do more than 25 blog comments per day max.

I actually read/skim the post IN DEPTH before posting a comment; not only that but my comments are on point and make sense (they actually come from my brain). Many are several sentences long and sometimes when I feel passionate even much longer! They are real comments that address the blog post; not only that but often I will bring up excellent points and even offer new insight or perspective or relevant information etc. These are real comments (better than real, they are well thought out and I out effort into them).

Many of our clients are big national corporate clients and I am actually accountable for my comments; they need to be professional, represent the company well as well as be neutral without being incendiary or too judgmental (yes, my boss reads them).

I've noticed that lately my comments are not going through; generally it should say "your comment is awaiting moderation" etc. I retry using e-mail, still won't go through. I try again using a name instead of anchor text and it still will not go through. I have tried different domains. I tried doing a comment recently for a brand new client with a brand new domain and it still will not go through.

Did they ban my ip you think? Or the entire server that all our clients are hosted on? I work from home and only have 1 ip. I have never used a proxy or any of the sort since I actually put a lot of thought into my comments and am not a spammer. However, we have over 70 clients/sites (on different domains) so I do comments for all of these different domains.

Generally when the comment doesn't go through on the first try I will use a different e-mail and it will go through but lately that trick hasn't been working either nor does using a brand new domain work.

I need to know if they ban by e-mail (I don't think so since new e-mails don't work), url's (since new domains won't go through) or if it's something else.

I don't think sending a consideration to be removed from the Akismet database would work because we have like 70 clients. What do I ask to be unbanned, the domains, my ip or what?

Lol, that's your problem right there. You don't think you are a spammer. 70 comments a day? Your a spammer. What other word is their to describe that? Do NORMAL people post 70 well-thought-out, useful, constructive, insightful, saucy and yet still responsible comments that are inspected, detected, injected and dejected by dozens of layers of editorial beaurocracy?

You've covered it with about 5 gallons of lipstick, but it still looks just like a fucking pig.

And yes, your number has come up, your IP is on a list somewhere and this is going to be something you are going to have to deal with.

So now your question is which proxy service to use? I'd advise NOT getting Hide My Ass, as they maintain records of incoming IP addresses, and will hand them over to anyone that asks for them. I mention this just in case you also don't think you do credit card phishing, email spamming, sql injections and are involved in the international arms and ammunitions trade.

Well...you can get Aksimet ban by either posting too fast with same IP or making too many comments pointing to same domain.
To make sure you don't end up in Aksimets shit-list you need to rotate both proxy and ip.

Then there are the occasional d*ckheads that will mark your comments as spam no matter how good or passionate you are.

Other times they simply wont approve your comment, simple as that.
I've seen comments like "good post" with porno kw anchor as name being approved while my comments doesn't get approved.

I don't do 70 comments a day... Max 20 comment attempts AT THE MOST. I don't work on all our clients every day. I rotate... Sometimes we don't get to one for months if they are ranking well. On average I do around 15 blog comment attempts a day. I don't think that is a lot...

I said we have 70 clients (more actually), but I don't do that many comments a day.

If the user IP is spam it's not bypass from Akismat, if IP was not spam it's bypassing from Akismat.

It's not only your ip.
It can also be your URL that has been banned
Akisment also has the technology to see through common redirect techniques
There are timestamping and signature algorithms also taken into considerations

The major flaw is that all it takes is a few webmasters to label your comments as spam - even if you don't think they are

Instead of relying more on Akismet based sites, try focusing on sites using Mollom captcha, or at least using mix of both will release the spam filter burden for your sites.

Akismet ban by various ways like some keywords are already on their spam list, so these keywords either used in name,url or sometimes even used in comment body will trigger the spam filter. Regularly commenting from same IP is a big risk but using publicly available proxies are also source of trap for spam filter as these IPs are used by many people for the same purpose. Applying to Akismet is a time taking process.

I agree with what you said about some keywords being banned, I think "mortgage" is one of them.

Litenup, that is a good point. I noticed that some comments are going through today though. There was one where I forgot to enter the url and just used my name as "name" and it went through... Plus a few others I did went through so maybe it depends on the site.

Also, I think I may have not been totally banned because I can still go through if I paste the url at the end of my comment as a signature (without using anchor text). My boss is ok with just the url instead of anchor text since it's more natural to have a variety of links.

This is a bit off topic but is it normal for well known companies (I'm talking million dollar companies that are household names) to be that picky about blog comments? They don't want to be represented in a bad light so it can't be gibberish obviously but in addition to that the comments also have to be "neutral" and not negative in any manner. My boss said to imagine that your "pastor" will be reading it; it has to be super "clean" and to always use words like "may" or "possible" and not absolutes. For example, I can't say "I disagree with..." instead I would have to say something like "Perhaps it would be better if...." It's almost like being a politician and having to be very "neutral" and careful about the words that I choose when doing a blog comment. Is it common for big corporations to be this picky? Just curious.

If you want to focus on sites using Mollom captcha then you find blogs with your desired keywords using parameters like:
"you accept the Mollom privacy policy."

I have done some testing on my own site and Askimet definitely bans by Email and also urls. I don't know about IP, they say they don't ban by IP on trier website http://akismet.com/support/

Also maybe the webmasters are simply not approving your comments?
