Is it just me or is Bluehost getting really bad?

I use Bluehost for hosting my WP blogs, but lately there as been a lot of connection errors to my sites and the WP dashboard is really really slow. Loading times for my sites is terrible too even though I clear the cache regularly
Has anyone else noticed this?

James :)

They are probably just putting too many people on one shared box. Or, someone hosting on your box is hogging all the resources. Contact them, and ask them to look into it. Also, clearing the cache on any caching plugin you have will make the site load slower. Caching generates a static html page. If you clear the cache, WP needs to call the database to rebuild those html pages, which will increase load times, and load on the server.

I haven't noticed any issues like that recently but in the past I did and I contacted them and they fixed the issue. Also it could be some some plugin slowing you down. Do you use a caching plugin?

@ themidiman: Great info mate, thanks very much for that. How would I go about doing that? Those plugins promise fast loading times out the box. And wmoriarty; I do use a i do use caching plugins yes, but not on all my sites.

Remember that WordPress is a resource hog. If you have many active sites (especially if they have a lot of plugins) that get traffic on a single hosting account, you simply may be meeting your own CPU threshold, and you are being choked to keep your account from affecting other websites on the same serer, you may have outgrown the number of WP sites that that hosting account can accommodate. Call Bluehost and ask, I have always found them to be helpful and very quick to solve any issues I have ever had.

You are right, they were very helpful. They got back to me within half an hour and said this:

"We certainly apologize for the inconvenience, there is currently an issue with the server itself. Our administrators are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, we currently have no estimate of when this will be fixed. This may be a server issue, or it may be an issue caused by another user hosted on the server. Because you are in a shared hosting environment, this means that any user on any server can potentially cause issues with the server itself. These issues can effect performance for other users on the same server. If this is indeed the cause, we work to find these users that are causing the problems and deactivate them. Our administrators work to resolve these issues as they are brought to our attention, please bear with us, we appreciate your patience."

When I looked into web hosting, most web boaters had on average 1 and 2 star reviews from over 100 customers. Now people will only review if there is something to complain about it's very hard to find people who will take the time out to review positively. I found webhostinghub had the best reviews over 4 stars on average and not many poor complaints. So inthe future never read a review from an affiliate marketer only read reviews from customers.

I'd hop over to hostgator if I was year. I ditched blue host for them a year or so ago and have never looked back. Any issues also get sorted in an instant usually.

I moved my blog over to wpengine.com the other day from a cheap shared hosting provider - a $0.99 per month jobby!

Before - http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/OWXtjdQir/http://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk

After - http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/H3h9v2eBN/http://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk]

Granted I made some tweaks to code and such things but that made a huge improvement to the load speed.

Cheers for your time, but I am seeing $29 pm per 1 install. I have 12 WP sites on mine for $6.95 pm.

I have a friend who hosted with Bluehost. His site got way to big and it did slow down a lot. He wanted to do some big things with it and just wasnt able to.
