Best place to backorder a domain?

There's a domain that I'm interested in that's expiring in a few weeks. I sincerely doubt anyone else is going to try to pick it up (it's got a little personal value, but really zero SEO or commercial value to it), but I'm willing to put down the extra money to backorder it just so it doesn't somehow slip past me. The site has been down for close to a year, so I'm hoping it won't be renewed.

The domain is currently registered with godaddy. Am I correct in assuming that they would be the best place to go to backorder it? From what I know of grace periods, deletion timelines, etc., it would seem like they would have access to sell it to me before any other registrar. Am I right, or am I missing something here?

Edit: not to threadjack myself, but I see another domain I'm interested in (once again, zero commercial value) expiring with network solutions soon. They appear to do backorders through namejet - anybody ever used them before?

Godaddy backorder services seem to be the most popular and reliable at the moment. I have used them in the past as well and I was successful in getting the domain so you can try your luck using them as well.

You're welcome it's an old post but has been constantly updated, the comments are educational too if you can manage to get through them all.

Let me know how you get on and what you end up doing as there's one coming up in March that I want to register and it's going to be my first shot at it too. Hence why I've been researching and came across that blog.

If you want to stay away from auctions and pre-paying for backorders then I would recommend domainmonster. I've had some success in catching names with them and there's no upfront fee you only pay if they secure the domain, it's something like $60. Only issue is if another domainmonster customer has placed the backorder before you then you can't, they only allow one customer per expiring domain which is both good and bad.
