Hey BHW, Been a long time - What's up?
It's the end of 2012 here, and I have a few things to vent about. I want to sum up all the troubles caused by me and my team throughout this year.
Starting off with the apologies for two major disasters in this year, especially with a couple software launches that were supposed to be successful, but headed south.
The youtube software - It began with a high expectation of making it very famous and successful. So, I have hired a few programmers who were supposedly 'the best' in their fields, and had them on a payroll for $100k+/year, but after investing $30k down the line into the development of the software, it took me to a dead end. The core functionality of the software was ok, and had the programmer updating it every now and then whenever there were changes made by youtube. Although it always lacked something more, a social area, so I hired another php programmer to add a few more things to it, such as a marketplace so that people can interact with each other. Right before the launch, everything was 'perfectly fine' according to everyone, and then there was the launch - an epic failure. The marketplace wasn't working and people weren't receiving the software after paying for it. Had hit up the programmer to look into it, and he was always "working on it", and it had "always worked for him".
While this side of the story was already terrible, on the other hand, the lead programmer who had written the code - started giving away the software for free on a private forum, while I was trying to make a sale on it. In other words, he was directly competing with him and has destroyed the entire pricing point, and directly penetrated into my market share. During the same week, I ate up another loss of $200k in the CPA area, and was advised from the financial team to cut the overhead. Anyway, long story short, I asked the php guy to at least fix for what's been paid and he advised me to find a different programmer. What the fuck?
Anyway, that whole project has been stalled. Positive side is that I have refunded every customer that purchased the software, regardless of the money back gaurantee terms.

Now the facebook project - This is another major disaster, not so much financially, but very much practically. The project had gone no where. The programmer was supposed to just plugin the GUI that I had sent and finish up the 'final touches' in just 2 weeks, but guess what, it has been 6 months now, and not one bit has been moved ever since. Same story, same bullshit. Had way too many people waiting on for it, and everyday passed with same fuckin crap. What's worse is that one of the mods have thought that I am selling it outside the BST and even gave me an infraction. Heh. That's what reality is like.
Bottom line - That has gone no where either.

Moral of the story is - be very careful when hiring programmers. They can be very very sketchy. Never give up! Long Live IM.

that's ridiculous, I have had private ones made for way WAY less than that, like $99k less.
