Hey, SEOer! What's wrong with our site?

At first, today is Christmas day, Merry Christmas to everyone!

Our site is a site offers wood stoves for British, it has PR2 since last year. We ranked well last year,if search some keywords, such as, wood stoves, wood burners, etc, their ranking is fifth in google UK. We choose other key words and more long tail words this year and ensure we have more different anchor text instead of the exact anchor text. We have official blog, also write blogs on blogspot, blogcom, weebly, etc, submit website to directory sites and bookmark sites, also write some posts on some forums ( not here, lol ) , we also submit some articles to some pr sites, such as articlebase, apsense, etc. but our site really has poor rank this year, the best ranking is about 70th in google UK, most of keywords rank very bad.( I don't think it was punished by Google) Most of orders are from Google shopping. In fact, it just have several orders.

Btw, the ranking of those keywords is not stable, sometime, some word ranks 200th, it can be 800+ a week latter, why are they not stable? ( We haven't use any black hat trick or skill)

Hey, SEOer, what's wrong with our site? Hope you can tell us and give us some advice and suggestions. Any post will be appreciated!

It is really hard to say what exactly is causing a trouble. Let's say you've made some on-site changes that are a major part of change in ranking. Secondly, the cart thing is also a valid point as said above that some CMS are just vulnerable and you change one thing but it automatically mess up several other functionalities.

Moreover, the link building techniques you mentioned aren't worthy now. I won't say don't do them at all but just 20-30% of it. Put rest of your effort in building relationships with people via social platforms, guest blogging or your local presence.

PM me your URL and i'll see if i can find a reason behind it.

Cheers

Hey, thank you for your advice! our site is Astove UK, I can't write the exact URL because i am still a Newbie member. Hope you can give us detailed analysis. Thank you very much!

one of my sites has tanked for a low comp keyowrd as well. Can't seem to get it higher...

Hmmm...let's say I promote a local plumber...why should I put his FB/Twitter profile in? I mean the users wants a plumber not to read about his FB page/blogs etc....This is getting ridiculous I.M.H.O.

So is there no hope for one page local services web sites these days? They have to be 500+ page blogs? It's crazy.

You do not use these services for their personal stuff, yuo use it for their business stuff. Post before and after of their work on photo sharing sites, post customer hints (a plumber might advice all his followers to wrap their pipes or have the furnace checked before a cold snap) on facebook and twitter, use twitter to let customers know he is on the way or has a delay getting to their appointment.

Send holiday greetings and such. Root for the home team on game day.

The idea is to enter the customers life and become "their" plumber. Be where they are,and be as professional and polite and helpful as possible. When they need you, or anyone they know asks, they will automatically choose or refer you. or your customer.

The one page website is gone, even for local. But a 5 to 10 page site can do very well.

OP

You have a serious on page SEO problem in general through out the site. Your description is badly formatted, the h tags are injecting all kinds of unnecessary keyworsds into the algo because google gives weight to these words and you have used therm to control font size instead. You are not tagging alt images, the one place where you can get away wit using the term stove, because all the pictures are of a stove. Missed opportunity there, and a demerit fore the missing alt tags.

You have to remember you rank individual web pages, not sites. Each page must be optimized in order for the search engines to understand what is on the page.

If you do everything with the onpage right, Google will understand exactly what the page is about, and you will get more and more targeted visitors.

You are not doing everything right. Find someone who really knows on page SEO, and have them optimize the pages one at a time.

As everyone here has said you have find alternate words for "stoves" and "stove", and you need to simply drop a bunch off the product labels (use "Wood Burning" instead of "Wood Burning Stoves")

Also you seriously need to consider getting that Google places listing, geting listed in the yahoo directory, and set up facebook, flikr, and pinterest accounts.

There are 767 pages indexed in Google. I see an excessive use of word 'Stove' and you've been using very common and short keywords whereas it should be a mix of short & long tail keywords.

I don't see any text in h1 tag. Instead it has your logo path there.

The load time seems to be more than average because your page contains large javascript files, images. Consider compressing those files through various compression techniques.

No Alt tags for images.

Add canonical tags on each page.

blog is already installed along with robots.txt and sitemap so you should be relaxed on that :).

A quick question:

Have you disabled URL parameters in Google Webmaster central?

PS: This is just a basic audit/analysis i did in a few minutes. If you want something bigger & better then you can count on me! Looking forward to your PM.
