Buying High PR Expiring Domain Names

I have heard that a lot of people buy high Pr expiring domain names and i see a lot of them being available at some of the sites selling them. Even though a lot of domains have fake PR, i have still seen some which have real PR of 3-4. i also see many with 100s r even 1000s of backlinks. my question is that is there a catch. Have they been banned by google or something. if that is not the case how come they are available. pl enlighten me.

You have to check backlinks quality. If the backlinks are mostly from comments on unrelated spammed blogs, then this domain is not so good. Also check anchor diversity.

You can check quality of backlinks with ahrefs, majesticseo or seomoz.

Just because a domain has expired doesn't necessarily mean that it's banned. Sure most of them are, but that's the point where you need to check them up manually.

Owner forgot to renew it, wasn't able to renew it, just didn't have the interest for the domain/project... possibilities are endless.

Just check their backlinks, if you see spammy keywords like viagra coming from blog comments or spammy forum posts, stay away from them. If you do not find any spammy backlinks, chances are the domain is in good position with google.

Remember, expired domain names display a parking page. Google started delisting parked domains about a year ago, so even if you Google the domain name and did not find it, it doesnt mean that it is penalized/sanboxed or whatever, there is 99% chance that the domain name will be indexed/listed on Google as soon as it is up again.

To check if a domain has been deindexed from Google's SERP simply type:

INFO:websitedomain.com

Into the search bar and if it doesn't show any results then it's deindexed.

you did? I bought my very first domain in domainka too, the price is cheap scary at first because I'm not sure if I'll get a ROI or if i'll be scammed but good thing all things went well and domain is working just fine. you can also add the domain name to google web master tools as long as you have info about the website, then manually check, If you receive an email from google saying "No pages from your site are currently included in Google's index. Indexing can take time. You may find it helpful to review our information for webmasters and webmaster guidelines." then the domain name is banned.

Really? I bought my very first domain there also. Oh wait they weren't around when I bought my very first domain. Maybe it was Netsol I purchased from.

The first thing I will check after finding an expired domain is the anchor text/linking domain of the backlinks. Like some mentioned in this thread already, if they are spammy blog comments and/or pharma/gambling/'bad neighborhood' keywords I would recommend moving on to the next domain on your list.

Second, I will pull up Way Back Machine and check all caches present, especially the most recent. When I first started toying around with expired domains I was very surprised how many were already re-used and abused in the past as part of blog networks. Beyond this, a site:url.com in Google can work to check if it is indexed but many times nothing will show up if the URL has been expired for some time or parked anyway.
