About hackers and wordpress security

I have some wordpress websites and I want to protect them effectively. But some security plugins can be heavy and slow down the page loading speed, I think.

Any suggestions for a good light weight security plugin?

Using wpbettersecurity for the last year....so far havent been hit.. I like the way it emails me back ups of my sites...

well the best suggestion if you don't want to load heavy plug in is to keep your wordpress updated when there's security update. You also can pay an account in cloudflare with hacking protection services they will not able to do bruteforce anymore (at least script kiddies)

I can also vouch for Bullet Proof Security... Have been using it for just over a year and haven't been hit once. CloudFlare seems to do an O.K job at blocking spam I.P's...

You have choose the right plugin
with it u can find vulnerabilities of themes and other plugins

As an addition to what was said above, take regular backups of your site, this is the most important bit. If your site is static then a weekly backup would do but if dynamic like a regularly updated blog then daily (automated), don't forget!

the big problems at this time - wordfence look for it:
- default.php - remove it!
and
- .htaccess rewrite

i use Wordfence and am very happy with it , always notifies me when the Chinese and Russian hackers are trying to get in.
No security system is 100% but if you make sure you keep backups and update and plug up any security holes you should be ok.
