Keyword Research Help?

Hey all,

I've been trying to create a few new sites, this time using SEO as my primary traffic tool... I followed a great guide here on Keyword research, however, when I am searching the Google Keyword Tool, it's giving me values that just cannot be correct.

For example: Buy Graphics Cards - Apparently this has 140 Global Searches per month. I just can't see how that is even possible. (I am searching Exact Keywords btw)

Am I doing something wrong here?

Done. Even cleared cache + history. Im using Exact Search and removed the specific country filter. Still happening. Tried setting US only, still happening again! Always 140 ;p Thanks anyway.

According to my tool that is correct 140 EXACT GMS
Broad match GMS is 14K

Thanks for clearing that up pal.... But doesn't 140 seem a little too low for you too? I mean im sure I have searched that once or twice in my lifetime and im like 0.000001% of the worlds population. Lol

No that might be correct. If you're using exact match then those are the exact number of searches for that exact phrase. You may have searched for "buy graphics cards" but the majority of the population looking for that might be searching for a broad match of that. "Buy Graphics Cards Online" for example. And with a keyword like buy graphics cards - 140 searches may be gold for you since they are already looking to BUY. Probably a high converting KW.

op is talking true, i work with my main kw which has 120k search/month, but on my computer adwords tool says it has only 140 per month

it is now wayto be true, as i get more visit to my web per day on this kw

Most keyword #'s should not be taken any where close to face value. They are under and over skewed for a variety reasons across a variety of tools. That being said at 140 exact phrase searches tracked by Google you can pretty much conclude that keyword phrase is most likely not a phrase you want to target. You can also do plenty of cross comparing to something like Bing to see if the numbers seem realistic:

Another key point is that Google organic searches are just one way to drive traffic. Real traffic generation is a much more intensive and complex process with keyword research and use only being a very small part of the equation. With the landscape of social media and the internet changing so to is the way humans search or find things on the web. As another aside the keyword phrase you chose shows high competition, poor trending lines and low search volume which is just a recipe for SEO disaster. You may want to consider reading further on how to best find and evaluate keywords and how to effectively leverage them when needed.
