ThisIsWhyImBrok Clone Too Cheesy?

Everyone knows about the big epic success of thisiswhyimbroke and I finally got an up and running clone site. But now after thinking about it do clone sites like this work? I mean to say does anyone have any experience with copying a site and the main idea and having success with it. I have a pinterest themed clone for recipes that's worked out nice but I've never cloned with the same format and same content ideas. Has anyone else?

I'm not sure about the success rate, but personally I would not bite someone's design especially a well known viral site.

Lot's of people want to emulate that site, but I think if they spent the same amount of time being creative as they spend looking for the "theme" they could improve their chances of success.

Just a side question. Will using the clone of TIWIB design get into any legal issues with TIWIB or even from Amazon? Cos I've got someone who's interested in setting up a site similar to TIWIB but i'm not exactly sure of any legal implication ...
Any thoughts?
