I've been writing bad reviews on a competitor's Google Places page.

Somehow the owner keeps "hiding" the reviews. I say hiding because when I'm logged into my Google I can still see my review but when I log out, it's not there anymore.

I don't think he's flagging it because as far as I can understand flagging deletes the review completely.

Are you writing multiple reviews under one Google account?

probably he flagged you but its still in your system, clear your browsing history and see if you still see the same thing when u log in

No I changed accounts and IP's. I cleared cookies too and that didn't help.

I find it strange how he is able to do what he's doing.

Here is what I'm doing to hopefully fix the problem. I've logged back into my accounts and clicked edit on the review. There it gave me the chance to publish it again and make any changes. I also shared the reviews publicly on Google Plus. The bad reviews are starting to trickle back in again.

It's most likely that the post is not set to "public"

^I think it is now.

What do you think gives you the right to try and damage someone else's livelihood?

The same right that gives him and everyone else to attack mine.

If you haven't noticed, its a cut throat world out there and no one is getting ahead by being nice.

I didnt want to post in this thread, but I was too tempted to do so. You are 100% wrong. Yeah sure, it is a cut throat world at times, but I know many successful marketers that make a good living doing things right, minding their own business and not worrying about what their competitors rankings or earnings are. If people focused more on making their own money than worrying about how much their competitors were doing, they would make more money. And besides negative reviews = traffic, so in a sense, if the competitors product is worthy, it could actually help them more than it would hurt them.

Are you serious right now?

A smear campaign?

lol, I hope your competitor figures out what you're doing and does it back to you.

Focus on your own goals. And if one of your goals is to write a bunch of bad reviews about them then good luck because shady business like that won't last long.

I've had customers start telling me now that before they used my service they went online and started doing some research. They chose my service due to reading some bad reviews on my competitors. And now I'm getting great reviews on all of my profiles.

Therefore, I'd have to disagree with you.

(I should have mentioned that I'm doing this in an industry that is offline & oldschool and has to be the furthest thing away from IM)

It's still a pretty shady move.

My business is 9 years old and continues to grow at 15-20% a year. Go figure.

Probably because of your smear campaigns ;)

Good luck man.

Amongst several other factors including word of mouth, big ad budget, services which over-deliver on their promises.

Might I suggest instead of writing bad reviews of competitors, to instead reply to the actual bad review.

That way you have a chance to explain yourself, and show you are doing everything to solve the problem, and offer something for free too.
(yes i know you said some of the bad reviews are fake, but if you at least reply with a possible solution, the onus is on the reviewer to reply and maybe accept your offer. If they dont or reply foolishly, then that actually makes you look good, and other reviewers will see you made an effort to fix the problem).

It works MUCH better than a smear campaign.

I don't actually have an issue with bad reviews on my business. I was just wondering how others were hiding theirs.
I solved the problem now however.
