The last bit of link building I did to my site was in September and it was from a pr2 guest post. I literally have not touched it once since then. These google updates are the best! If you are in doubt about creating an authority site, do yourself a favor and do it.

my 10 day old site is on page 1 for 8.1k global, exact keyword and a 5.5k global exact keyword.

Guest posts definitely seem like the way to go. I've seen a lot of good things coming from posting high quality guest posts and also using some better quality high domain authority blog posts to 2nd tier link to the GP. Good stuff!
