How many freakin domains do I need??

I've got a handful of domains, non of which are really related to any specific topic other than one that is a myspace resource site.

So I'm wondering how many domains everyone has at their disposal.
My main concern is using a domain for an affiliate offer, for example the youtube/ringtone thing being discussed. If I watermark a video on youtube with a ringtone offer, it seems lame if the url in the video doesn't have something about ringtone in it.

So, how many domains do you currently use that are niche targeted for specific projects?

quite a few hundred, the majority being .info's for this exact purpose. a .info domain is usually around a dollar, if you can't spend a buck to get a new project up and running on its on domain then why bother. Domains are so dirt cheap $10 TOPS for a .com that there is no reason not to register one for every project you do that needs a solid sounding URL. What's the point in doing a project if it doesn't make enough to cover a damn domain.

Agreed. Trust me, money is not even an issue. Having made a lot without even needing more than two blogs though, I've just recently realized that this is something I need to get going on.

Well, at the moment I have about 15 domains, but some of these are not being used for the kind of niche targeting I think you're talking about.

My target right now is to get every domain I have making at least a few cents above hosting and domain costs. This isn't a large challenge as over a year a $10 domain is about $0.84 per month, but if I get each domain up a few cents over cost, increasing their income a few more cents should be a simply process.

Of course, I have some domains that will be able to produce a lot more income than others, but if none of them are losing money, eventually the smaller income ones pay for additional domains and sites.

Dotster's sale just ended on the 20th unfortunately but maybe i can dig up another sale going on for ya. I've got a big notepad of niches that I want/need a domain for and when a sale hits I tear all the pages out and start fresh. This keeps me from jumping from project to project as I won't usually buy new domains unless they're very good or a sale hits. Godaddy usually will keep the .infos really cheap if you buy in BULK as well. But you need to contact them personally and get an account manager for that .

Looks like there aren't any sales going on right now, a friend recomended hxxp://wh*iz.in/ as their sale has .info's going at $1.80 which is better than everyone else right now. Although I can't vouch for the company

DomainsAreFree is offering .com domains for only 3.99 right now. Though, I haven't done any business with them. So I can't tell you much about them.

godaddy .info $2.99 first year. If getting something besides that from there, make sure to look for coupons on the net. I got one of those codes, plugged it in, and it worked!! (but probably not for such cheap offers).

I'm guessing register as a reseller for .cn domains getting them for about 30 cents on the dollar. The only catch with this is:

A: you need to put up somewhere in the range of 200-500 to be a reseller

B:The domains will be whisked away from you if anyone complains about porn, poker, or pill content on them.

Its not about quantity, you only need one if its booming ! Would rather concentrate on just one untill its booming, making minimum 50$ per day, then start on another...rather than have dozens and try to get them to make a few cents

There a several ways to look at this. There's the black hat way and the white hat way and of course the in between ways. It's a known fact that a .com is worth about 90% more than a .net and even more for another TLD or CCTLD. If you find a domain that is good, register it. Develop it and worse case scenario go to a domainer/webmaster forum and off load the domain you bought. I work with several hundred domains at a time because I always have the backup plan which is selling a developed site (close to expiration) with a low starting price in an auction format. I'm happy with pretty much any bid, although I do get pissed at having to waste my time to transfer a domain and give site details when I sell at 99 cents...but hey it's part of the game and it keeps you profitable if you remember to sell before expiration. This post reminded me because I had to renew $200 in domains today.

Coming from several hundred, who knows maybe way more, I loose count because the management became a nightmare, I found if renewal was coming up I would call a live operator at godaddy and get an awesome bulk discount rate and that was negotiable with a little discussion, to grow networks in popular niches I would say minimum 50+ which can be a mixture/blend of tld's, I have found more success, starting with an end game and long term strategy and micro focusing on main domains and growing them out through categories and subs, a lot less painful and far more rewarding from an authority perspective. There are several tools that assist the process of automation, most of which I have found discussed in this forum. Just my 2 cents worth..
