Your benefits of learning to code?

I've almost finished up with Java, and about to start on C# and plan to learn a lot more. I'm currently 18 taking an IT course in University.IT is basically computer sciences without the coding aspect(thinking of switching over). Anyways what are some benefits you guys have gained from your coding knowledge, better resume/jobs, money etc...

Java and C? Looks like you're going the Develozard's way. Great payfor long hours of dull work. I'd say "start-up programming" (JS frameworks, RoR, etc) has better prospects, at least for some.

learn ruby, python, scala (based on java) or clojure. they're more modern languages. though i think java would still be in demand in the coming years.
as for benefits? being able to create applications to my own liking is benefit in itself..

the ability to hack into codes is my favorite, for example i can look into php/java/c code, then figure out what its doing and customize it for my use.

Although i'm not that good at programming, learning them has helped me alot and i don't regret learning them.

That was just a joke my eyes where bad right after I was born and the lost time pays off very well. If I wanted to learn a different job, I would also have to spend time.
But nevertheless JavaEE espacially in connection with JSF and EJB gives you big money for not so long hours of not so dull work

For me dull work is more PHP or JS because especially as a beginner everyone wants you to do the same in the beginning.
Everything is an easy CRUD (Create Read Update Delete - Program with basic database features) program just the params are different.

Oh and in my opinion starting with Frameworks, PHP or any other script language gives you a bad programming style.

The last time I hired a programmer to help me set up my job board site, it costed me $2000. It took him 2 months. So here you go. Can you see some of the good side of being a programmer now?

*I pretty much believe he had his junior employers do it anyway.

The more languages you know the better. However, it is still best to know one or two language VERY well.

If you want to work in the online space, I would recommend picking up a popular web development language and a framework.

Python (Django, web2py)

It's good to know the basics and what is possible with coding. You can even get a good job and that's great. This is bhw so what's most important for us is pretty much only wordpress, html, css, and php.
However, marketing/copywriting/persuasion/sales are infinitely more important IF you want to be rich.

Computer science isn't just programming. You need a strong mathematical background in order to do well in CS.
