Understanding EMD MNS

Greetings, Everyone.

My main intention with this thread is to get a few last questions I have answered in regards to MNS.

Backstory:

For the past month I have been experimenting with PCC advertising. While I really enjoy learning and improving my PCC campaigns, I don't exactly have a ton of money to put into it. I have ~$150 a month to play with PPC. My first week of learning I lost ~$50. My second week improved some, I only lost ~$30. This past week I profited $9. I am steadily learning and improving in PCC marketing, however, as I posted earlier, I have limited amounts of money to really be playing with each month. This brings me to Micro Niche Sites. I have recently canned my addiction to video games in order to start earning money online in my spare time. Because of this, I wanted to start something else I could do to clear up the free time I find myself finally having. I originally started a product review site for a bunch of free things that I encouraged people to sign up for in June. It failed miserably because I over-extended myself and didn't know what I was doing. I want to be able to focus on one item at a time, and hopefully have a reoccurring source of income from each site (my goal is $10/day avg. for each site).

Questions:

1) I have seen plenty of people talk about their MNS. The reoccurring number I am seeing in almost every post regarding the number of pages their site has is 8. Obviously a good MNS isn't just a landing page. I would include a ToS, a DMCA and a Privacy notice in addition to the landing page.. Maybe a FAQ, too. Other than that I'm not sure what other pages to use. That is only 5 pages. Is there something critical I'm missing here?

2) I am hoping someone might be able to PM me a generic format for MNS. Maybe even a past MNS someone was using, and it just became too saturated of a market and your site is no longer profiting. I don't want to copy. I just want to see an example, really.

3) I have seen a repeated suggestion to choose a low-cost yet popular keyword.. And then choose a product to go with that keyword. I would really appreciate confirmation on this. Which leads me to my last question:

4) What is a popular (prefer free - I don't have a lot of extra money as mentioned above) keyword gathering program that is noob friendly? Or, even if it's not free, something cheap and noob friendly?

I appreciate any and all responses. Before the almost required "use the search function", please keep in mind that most posts on MNS is relatively dated. Like 2008-2011ish. I welcome any constructive criticism.

If you want to build MNS faster, you can order MNS from BHW services, some service offer keyword research too. It will save your time and money than build it by yourself.

I appreciate the tip, I really do. It just seems odd that someone would sell something I could make $10/day from for less than $50 (what I can afford to spend at this point). Do you have any personal experience from this?

Questions:

Yes, when people refer to how many pages a MNS has, they exclude contact, privacy policy, etc.. and include only real , unique articles written by you.

So for a 8 page MNS, you do not have to write just one article - the landing page - you have to write
8 unique articles about the topic, in addition to the extra pages.

Also, after the latest updates targetting low quality mns, many people prefer to add 10-20 unique articles to their MNS.

So you have some writing to do, even for a MNS.

Go to flippa, check for sold websites section, and search for micro niche websites or adsense websites..

You will see plenty of examples of MNS sold in the last year-2 years. Including prices, niche profitability , etc.. You can try to replicate the successful ones.

If this is your first MNS, choose something you can rank for, regardless of its profitability. It's more important to know how to rank a website - you can find profitable niches in the subsequent attempts - rather than choosing a well paying keyword but you have no chance to rank for.

4) What is a popular (prefer free - I don't have a lot of extra money as mentioned above) keyword gathering program that is noob friendly? Or, even if it's not free, something cheap and noob friendly?

Analyzie traffic trends and profitability using google keyword tool - free.
Analyze competition using a free seo plugin for firefox or chrome (seo quake, or seo for firefox). Or manually get top 10 results for your niche and check their backlinks with opensiteexplorer, majestic seo, and ahrefs.com -- all are free for limited data, you do not need to pay to upgrade for a mns.

While I highly appreciate Nick Flame's response (and I'm ready to get to work now! ), Dazzvision made an interesting comment. What success do people have with purchasing MNS's? I'm looking to be profiting about $10/day off a site. I find it hard to believe I can get that from spending only $100-$150. Why would someone build a website for someone else at that price when they can hang on to it and get double that in a month? Does anyone have personal experience with this?

Out of 100 MNS I build two years ago my results were 1=$2 5=$1 15=$.50 per day and the other 79 barely cover annual renewal costs. I started with 5 unique 500 word articles per site plus TOS, Privacy, and contact us pages. They were all autoblogs and hosted across 7 shared hosting accounts. I have done little to no link building on any of them. If I had it all to do over again I would have bought just 5 sites and not made them autoblog. Oh I left out they were all EMD names and mostly TLD with only a few .info's.

Two years ago the sites did much better but since panda and penguin updates the rankings have tanked. I have gone from 1500 or so dailys now I am down to a few hundred. You are on the right path with just starting one property and listen to what Nick Flame say's, it is very good advice. I would add to try to start something in a niche you are familiar with. Content is your most important asset, so you better enjoy creating it. Try to focus on writing something for your site everyday or at least every few day. Write good material and post links on some social networks. Add a few bookmarks and don't get carried away looking for some one click insta-magic seo tool.

On your sites do you run just adsense or are you using an affiliate link as well / in lieu of?

I primarily use adsense but I have tried a few others on sites that were not doing well on adsense. I tried adscendmedia but have very little success. Made a few clickbank sales but nothing to quit my day job over. Amazon was paying pretty good until I 301 a few sites directly to my amazon and then my earnings stopped. It was dumb and lazy on my part but the revenue never returned after that. So to answer your question, yes primarily adsense. I recommend focusing on getting the traffic first and then worry about monetizing it.

It does NOT matter if you're building MNS or Authority, or WHATEVER type of sites. If your goal is to get traffic by ranking a site, you are going to NEED backlinks. Notice how the usdachoice guy told you he hadn't made hardly any money on 100 sites. The biggest reason was when he said: "I have done little to no link building on them." No links = No ranking = No Money. It's not rocket science.

NOTHING converts better than organic search traffic. LEARN how to rank a page for a keyword. You don't need an MNS site for that. You can do it with a wordpress page or any web 2.0 site that is free. Links links links, that was, is, and will continue to be the name of the game. Read and learn from posts of numerous people here. LBrown is a smart lady who has given out some great info here. She started the thread at the link below. MadOctopus, Scritty, Expertpeon, etc...They are all very smart people who have shared a good deal of knowledge here as have many many others.

Read that thread and many more. You should, however, ABSOLUTELY consider any page or site or keyword that you rank to be TEMPORARY. There is no other logical way to look at things given the amount of changes that Google now makes in such short time frames. Hopefully you learn to rank sites and they stick. Some do. But nobody is completely immune to their changes. EXPECT your sites/pages to fall in ranking after "X" amount of time (X varies greatly). So once you find a profitable keyword, ALWAYS be building other sites/pages to take it's place once it inevitably gets nuked.

Learn how to rank keywords that get small traffic (as in < 1000 exact per month) first than move up to harder keywords as you get more knowledge and experience. Learn ALL you can about link building, especially building links for your links (as in tiered link building).

That will keep you busy for quite awhile. It's not easy, but it isn't rocket science either. Learn as you go, don't give up, and eventually you will succeed.

I would amend this discussion to say that the most complete way to understand things nowadays is, nothing converts better than organic search traffic---temporarily. You can be all-knowing about SEO as it stands at the moment, and build your sites and backlinks accordingly, rank high, then find the latest Google algo change or dance drops you like a stone, based on the 'latest thinking" that your structure now isn't "natural" to the search engine. You can make all the adjustments, then G will do it to you again on the next update.

My suggestion is to keep the SEO focused on good keyword research, the one element that's not likely to change, and does draw some organic traffic by itself. Build sites around more than 1-2 keywords, so G is less likely to deduct that it's an unnaturally thin site built on those terms. This will allow you to keep using EMDs. And create multiple legs of converting traffic that are not based on ranking in the SEs (video, social media, etc), so you're not so dependent on Google for a stable flow of targeted visitors.
