So far:
Two weeks of solid effort. Domain was up first day or so, a lot of time toying with layout, plugins, target ideas for forums, approaches, alerts etc.
Saw my first sale today: $18 ( not bad considering that particular product has only 8 hops )
Immediately tried lazy ways from the beginning like YTube and the like. Taking a piss really. That can be done and has huge potential if you take the time to think past ugly ( common ), spam looking videos that sell something nobody but a completely lost person would buy. ( I'd try products that you yourself would seriously buy and have solid landing pages )
Moving onto my forum experiences so far. I've really mainly been toying with approaches. So far trying to perfect one. From the outside looking in, it has spam on it's forehead. But from my numbers I'm seeing 7 out of 10 links sticking. Sometimes more, depending on niche ( pushing a multiple niche domain obviously ). The approach is 'damsel in distress' - in a way. It's allowing me to bomb on about 4-5 relevant forums an hour if I'm being moderate about it. I firstly create the account, verify, lightly configure user profile, avatar and the like. Make 4-10 quick replies on active threads ( I skim these threads quickly - as I scroll I once over the actual thread, then one or two 'shorter' replies - looking for an answer or opinion if it's a question or statement of some sort - then simply rewording all that quick info combined ( been doing a lot of manual spinning lately :/) ). Jump right in general discussion, that having the most eyes typically a day ( hoping for at least a 24 hour stick originally ). Then I drop my thread, composing mostly of a newcomer looking for an opinion or advice on a ( affiliate product ) review I just read.
Some will do better than others ( physics ), Smarter moderators will catch on. But I'm even seeing huge niche related forums respecting it as an actual question, with no resistance really. A little tip on top of that is I would suggest avoiding trying to drop a cloaked link. Naturally that seems like the quickest way to get a buyer to the actual sales submit form, but stick to your article link on the review site. In the cases where moderators have caught on it's been the multiple link versions I've tried. By multiple links within the 'concern, can you help, have you seen' type thread - I mean - (link)reviewsite/article and (link)reviewsite/video/product - attempting to give them options if you will, 'have you see this?' and 'they had a video as well, here' ( the video link going straight to developer ). That's pushing it though in retrospect. If you want traffic from the bigger sources you have to really sell the 'newbie' or 'beginner', story.
As for results from this actual method, I'm not super convinced yet. Though it can't be bad for relevant backlinks in the long run can it? For the ones that stick anyways - I'm seeing traffic. I'd say out of 30 of these in multiple niches I've seen 300 unique visitors in rapid succession. The real problem with this is it's kind of deviating from meatheads initial pointer as to use the alerts to find them.
As for alerts: That was the first thing I did. I went a little up the wall with it I think tho. I scraped every Long tail and relevant keyword and phrase I could get my hands on. My original list was pushing 200+ alerts. Eventually I re-read entirety of this thread ( everyone should read through ) and finally listened to a lot of you regarding to sticking with 'discussions' only. My only problem at this point with alerts is I'm not getting its full potential I feel, that's my fault, doesn't take away from how key it is at all. Just gotta keep toying with it. Problem with that now is the fact that I'm in love with a niche that doesn't respond well to buyer keywords or phrases. But there is no shortage of buyers for these products and they make up for that with well made sales pages and great useful products that are needed and wanted. So I'm still on the hunt to specializing in the alerts. If anyone has a tips,tricks,stories - I'm all ears.
Right now I'm working on full re-design for content purposes. I lurk BHW pretty damn hard, so I'm trying to combine almost everything I've learned in the ( year ) off and on time I've just sat hear and read posts.
For an odd organic traffic source I worked on last week that I came across on here, can't remember which post, but of course I learned it here, the place to get the knowledge you need to carve your piece of this market out for yourself. I started playing with media content on my actual host. Uploading more relevant imagery to each article and re-naming every image ( along with property settings ) - to long tail keywords and phrases. I'm seeing organic traffic slip in from the big guys.
That coupled with strong videos and original ( hand spun ) content is what I'm working on now. I don't see the harm in trying to have something to fall back on, or keep alive, or even invest in if I can create my sales initially through forums. Why not put the dollars behind mildly ranking and legitimizing in the future? Is what it is.

YHA is the truth as well. But I never forgot the 'quick ban' stories earlier in the thread. So, amidst doing all this, I have steadily ranked an account. Saving it. Secret weapon.
There's a lot of these updates on this thread. Didn't mean to tell you my life story, just wanted to contribute a little. If this post is not appropriate I apologize.
