There are so many changes in link building strategies that Google no longer accepts. Since the Google Panda and Penguin updates, most of these no longer work for search engine optimization.

The following are the link building strategies that used to work in the past but no longer work with today?s search engines:

1) Low Quality Content

The Web is filled with articles that are written purely for link building purposes. It is easy to identify these small caliber ? low quality content rich articles based on the way they are written. There are a number of websites and platforms set up to approve articles based on randomly generating a topic. This is horrible for the organization of the website, and the quality of the content itself. Article spinning is another huge factor that results in low quality content. There are many article spinning programs out there that will likely do more harm than good.

2) Uncommon Anchor Text

The former standard of link building used to consist of an anchor text link that was
(keyword rich in nature) on a quality website. However, this has changed with the recent Google algorithm updates. Your site will easily lose ranking in the search engine results page (SERP) if you have too many unnatural-looking anchor text links. The key to avoiding this is to use various types of anchor text such as head term keywords, and long tail keywords. You have to make sure that you avoid a back-link profile that is filled with repetitive anchor text.

3) Domains that are Accurate Matches

Google used to give high SERPS to exact match domains. However, Google has recently made a change that will reduce the rank of exact match domains that are of poor quality. Seo.com is such an example of an exact match domain since it consists of an anchor text that the site desires to rank for. The former trend was that if you had an exact match term found in your URL, you would inevitably rank higher in the SERPS versus those websites that didn?t. This has greatly changed with the recent algorithm shifts.

4) Footer/Sidebar Links

One of the most effective link building strategies (that used to work) was footer and sidebar links. However, using these Post Google Panda/Penguin will definitely yield negative results. The reason being is because prior to Google?s algo updates, websites used to sell other websites links that could be placed sitewide. This is a huge no-no in the eyes of Google.

There are various forms of sidebar links. These include the general blogroll link. This does not cause any harm or help since it is just an internal link list. External sidebar links (that are not good) are those random keywords lists with exact match anchor text in the sidebar of a blog. These appear as paid links to the search engines.

I agree that footer links are not that useful as they used to be before.

Dude, i still see most of the sites ranking on Google serps with duplicate content. How did they get there?

why you leave that one strategy? you can spin that too dude

Footer links work perfectly if you know how to do it right. Still I'm getting much better results from some of the techniques on this avoid list.

And i add one more to it,, building more links overnight is to be avoided.

:D:D:D OP, you'd do well to close the thread mate. You'll find the option under Thread Tools on top of your original thread post ;)

I don't believe 1 and 3. I SPYed on my competitor yesterday. One has EMD with the primary keyword we are focusing. I checked on the backlink profile and guess what? A bunchload of comment blast and low quality spun articles. And guess what? Kicked out my website from #6 to 37. And that website is now number 3! How did that happen? This is BS. I'm gonna buy comment blast and article blast too haha..

Well I am not really fond of what Mr Cutt says unless it matches with my experimental results.
Now,Yea These days ofcourse EMD's with proper on-page SEO pin pointing the exact targeted keywords that goes apt with the domain name, are getting affected or better be called getting pushed down the SERP line..
But still there is a way of getting back the revenue unless the domain is de-indexed as lately We have observed that even the most perfect domains are getting de-indexed with absolute no clue left in our hand as to why they are getting kicked off the track by Team G-God...(PS: Guess some more UNKNOWN updates are coming :D)
Still sticking to my point 301 redirect can be the answer. It is really a very common method and also a talk about one and can work pretty well for the penalized EMDs.
We can always push the flow of link juice from the penalized EMD to a fresh non-EMD.
When we did/applied the same process on an UK IP hosted penalized EMD racing for a highly targeted niche+ keywords (PS) for Local Market and was stuck in between page 7-9, it worked wonder for us within 3-5 days.
