Hi guys

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I am out in the middle east at the moment and the country i am in i blocking many many sites. They only started doing it this week. Does anyone know how i can get around this?

I can't see many proxy sites, gambling, a lot of bit torrents, porn etc.

I share an internet connection with the rest of the building if that helps.

Really need to find a way a round this.

Anyone have any ideas?

You should look into getting one of the following: an HTTP proxy, a SOCKS proxy, or a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

cheers i will look into this. Where is the best place to look for a VPN and are they expensive?

thanks

Expensive is relative and depends on the provider you ultimately decide upon. You can get a VPN from StrongVPN.com

aaaarrrggghhhh. They have even blocked sites like strongvpn from appearing on my screen.

Oh Boy!

since you are here, I assume they have not banned this forum. Go the the proxy area and load up one working proxy into your browser, and you should be fine.

But when proxy die... he won't be fine anymore :) . And if the log what you're doing on your computer (I share an internet connection with the rest of the building if that helps.) they may block BHW too.

And maybe it's not your isp... but the one, who control internet connection for your building...

They probably blocked any URL that contains "proxy" "vpn" etc.

Hit me up on one of my instant messengers and I'll give you a free proxy for the sole purpose of signing up for a VPN. No other activity will be permitted. Send me a PM with your instant messenger ID first so I can verify who you are.

Woo Hoo, cheers bpaw! I'm up and running and i'm off!!!

Nice one. Problem solved.

Whatever you do keep one thing in mind:
If your country BLOCKS then they might also MONITOR !
You might be at a real risk if you access blocked sites and they can see that, I don't know about your local laws.

Cloakfish is encrypted, a VPN is also encrypted.
Usual SOCKS and HTTP proxies are not encrypted. I'd not use that in your case.

If you need high bandwidth then you should look for a fast VPN provider (low latency/ping).
Just google for that (and keep in mind, googling for VPN might also trigger some flags at your authorities computers;)

Don't mean to hijack but I'm having similar problems and need some help.

I'm a US citizen but not currently in the US.

For one example, I need to purchase skype credit but skype sees that I'm not logging into my account from the US so it is limiting my payment options to wire transfer and moneybookers. I don't want either option (and can't even open a MB account for the same reason).

If I go to my skype account via 'hidemyass' I can access the CC and PayPal options. But I'm hesitant to go through with either of those payment methods because I do not trust sending accounts and passwords through HMA. I already pushed it by signing into my skype account in my opinion.

I'm also concerned with accessing payment accounts via a proxy of any kind.

Any advice you can share on these issues?

Maybe I should just get a relative in the US to do this shit for me...

Ruchka - have a look at cloakfish i think it might be able to help you.

I think I already know you by email, eh ?;)
A fast VPN should indeed be something that would free you from your chains.

At least that's what I'd do in your case.
You can still use proxies and stuff, just the VPN is infront of them.

When selecting a VPN take yourself time, try to find a small hoster and ping them before you order it.
Try to find something with ping lower than 100ms if possible.
And of course no packet loss but when your ping is good packet loss is usually also no concern.

Cuppatea are you doing affiliate work or running your own online business from overseas? How is it accepting payment and getting access to your cash? Any tips for expatriates who travel to other countries and want to continue making money online overseas?

Hit up Yahoo answers and you can get some fresh proxies.
It is where I used to promote mine.
