Where do private proxy providers get their proxies?

do they support them themselves, or do they buy them from someone else?

Just curious, because i've been thinking about starting up a proxy site where i would just take the order and then fill the orders from cheaper suppliers...

Proxy sellers usually run proxy servers like squid on multiple servers(VPS). If you've many VPS you can run these servers and sell them.

I have often wondered this myself. Seeing as how a single VPS costs me $10/month, I don't see ho people can profit from $2 proxies.

It's not that one VPS provides only one proxy IP. One VPS can have many IP's so each with each IP you can have 254 network mask. Say if you've an IP like 127.1.2.0, you can have upto 254 masks like 127.1.2.0 - 127.1.2.254 so each mask acts as a proxy. So it's quite profitable

Sellers that are serious in the game pay a flat fee for a block of IPs for a year. I run a small hosting service and cost of a 30 proxy server works out to just over $11 for me. So if I wanted to be in the proxy business I'd be happy to sell them for $2 each. I could more than double my money at $30 a month, a buck a piece. But seeing how people abuse the shit out of them by trying to run an insane amount of BW or email on them, I won't touch the proxy business. I don't have time to monitor knuckleheads that think they should be able to purchase 10 $2 proxies and run 30TB through them. Proxy sellers have more patience than I.

Hrm. I see no option to set up a mask on my VPS. Just gives me a virtual public and internal IP address.
