Hello I am new to this community and I want to thank all the people that commented on my last post with such respect and such great ideas. I have decided that me and a friend want to team up and make a blog about something that we really enjoy. We decided skateboarding. I was a sponsored skateboarder until I had surgery at the beginning of the summer and I had to drop my sponsor. I am getting back into the rhythm of things and want to hit it full force. Me and my dad have been working on designing a skateboard company for the past two years now! I have finally came up with a logo and am going to presume the trademarking process as soon as i get some more money. I have not a clue about blogs. I want to start a blog all about skateboarding. In this blog I want to be able to write reviews. Post pictures, and have a store where I can sell merchandise. I will have this blog for a while, while I am working on my companies website. I need help on where to start a blog. I would like a .com domain. Please help me understand how to work a blog and where I should start my blog at.

If you want it all free then just signup at wordpress.com or blogger.com
If you have some money to spend then follow these steps:-
1. Buy a domain name from name.com or namecheap.com
2. Buy a hosting at hostgator
3. Login to hosting account and install wordpress in few clicks with fantastico
4. Download some related themes from here on bhw Install new theme and you are ready to go.

Which is better a "Wordpress" or "Blogger"? If I start a free one can i move it over a paid one? How much would you estimate the paid one cost?

Wordpress is better. The domain name and hosting will cost $20-$25 per year.

The other members have given you some good tips. You will be able to move your content to a new platform if you decide to do a self-hosted blog instead of a wordpress or blogger.com blog.
You may want to spend the money and do the extra work to go the self-hosted route if you are planning on setting up an e-commerce store. You will have much more control over things if you do the self-hosted route.
There are also tons of cool plugins available for self-hosted wordpress blogs and you may even be able to find a good e-commerce one depending on what your needs are. Wordpress is great because you can be a web design superstar without a lot of coding knowledge.

Note that you may want to both register your domain and buy hosting from the same company. Otherwise you will have to mess around with DNS settings to point the domain at your hosting provider's servers. Its not that difficult but if you aren't knowledgeable about this sort of stuff in the first place it will be a headache for you.
