[Pls Help] Strange Message From Web Hosting Comp.

Hello my fellow BHW members; I got this message from my webhosting company today, and I don't understand what it means

"Dear Reseller,

This email is with reference to your hosting order for "xxxXxxxxx.com". Firstly, we appreciate you choosing us to host your websites, and are glad to have you onboard.
Having said that, we have just been informed that your package is in violation of our Hosting Legal Agreement,specifically the ?Terms of Usage? section.

Your hosting package is in violation for the following reason(s):

* Bandwidth: While bandwidth is ?Unlimited?, we have noticed that your site is consuming an excessive amount of bandwidth, which is affecting the performance of all the other sites on the server.
Please understand that your website is one among many hosted on a server, and thus has to share resources.

Last 1 month Bandwidth Usage - 323.41GB

Your business and your websites are extremely important to us. If however, you are unable to resolve the issue within 7 days, we will unfortunately have to suspend or delete your package.

Please understand that on a shared hosting environment, a violation of any usage policy or any part of the Legal Agreement causes a significant amount of inconvenience to the rest of the users (including you) on the server. Our goal is to ensure that your website(s) never experience downtime, and we thank you for your patience and understanding.

I don't know what this means, my site has been getting a lot of traffic the last three months. From rank 3 million to 150k since october, but I don't understand what theu are telling me; do they want me to reduce the traffic coming to my website or what. What can I do to resolve this

Is that it; the webhosting can't handle the traffic. And its barley 3 months since I paid for unlimited, I hate when things like this happen. I never took this into consideration, cause I have never heard of this before. What the use of selling unlimited when they can handle it.

You may also want to optimize your web site a bit. Especially check out your images and make sure they are not too big, that alone could make a huge difference on your monthly bandwith generation.

If the site is getting that much traffic and is making money I would be going dedicated server anyway. I wouldnt lie down to that shit though, Have a good read through their TOS and see just how limited their unlimited is meant to be.

Its an entertainment blog; it has a lot of images. I haven't monetized it yet, was banned from adsense and cpa aint that good since my traffic is mostly Africans 17% are uk and usa,

Softlayer is scamming you. They told you unlimited bandwidth but they don't mean it. Find a better host that won't lie to you, get a VPS or a dedicated server, those are your options.

You've out grown your web hosting plan! This is a good moment, as it proves that your site users are growing exponentially.

I doubt your getting scammed by SoftLayer, their definition of unlimited would be written in to their T&C's. So you would have agreed to it when you took out the plan. Personally, I would go back to them and ask them what they recommend. They obviously want to move you to a VPS or a dedi, and you could get some sort of management package to make sure you website is also available.

Failing that, I would recommend 1&1. I've pushed in excess of 500GB in one day on their highest shared plan and I didn't hear a thing from them. I was pretty worried actually as the site is a 'client' of mine (I like what they do so I actually give them free hosting etc) and they release zip files of free music. When the site went live we released the newest zip and had over 1000 downloads in 24 hours (700~Mb zip file!).

well yeah you hit this mysterious "unlimited" number - basically it means once you start interfering with other people's sites on the server then your going to run into this .. you can never know how much they oversell the server in the first place.

if your not making any money from it - then try more shared hosting till you are - just a more lenient company

when you start making money then get a VPS or dedicated where you can control alot more.

Bottom Line -- start making money so you can handle the more resources you need to run your site or sites.

Just because you people don't read the fair use policies doesn't mean he's been scammed. Every webhost has reasonable usage guidelines on their unlimited hosting. You didn't read the agreement before agreeing to it, simple as that, and you've used more than your fair share of bandwidth. Get a VPS or dedicated server.

It's better that you find a host that clearly tells you how much BW you can use and purchase a plan with more than enough. Don't make the same mistake twice and purchase from another provider that says unlimited which is never unlimited. Calculate how much BW you used in the last month and purchase a plan that has double that amount. Then you won't have the issue again.

Cause I know a lot of my competitors haven't even got a DS or VPS, most of them don't even understand it; but yet they still get more traffic than me, as this is just my fourth month, I know my competitor that has been online for 6 years and he is confused on this message. His site ranks 18k on alexa thou.

This unlimited thing is evil but then you got to be as evil as it is. I have unlimited bandwidth internet connection and I'm expecting to transfer millions of petabytes of data without a single complaint from the provider, else I'm moving elsewhere. I pay for unlimited as shown on the sales page, I'm not going to dig deep to find their obscure page of policies, such hosts/providers can go fuck themselves, they also deserve trashing posts ranked for false advertising. I understand the "limited resources" bullshit argument but since the customer is promised to use as much as he can, the provider is liable to increase its capacity to handle all the requests under valid contract, again not customer's fault.

LMFAO- the valid contract is the AUP / TOS you claim you won't take time to read. Good luck with your idea though. Most locations only have 1-5 choices for ISP so it shouldn't take you long to burn all your bridges.

Most of these AUP / TOS aren't drawn up for the purpose of screwing customers. They're drawn up to limit liability and resources from atypical clients. If you're an atypical customer, believe me when I say, they don't want your business. Your drain on their resources isn't worth the pittance you send them. Their contract and advertising protects them against a few without costing them business of the majority. If you find you're one of the few don't expect consideration by hosting companies or ISPs. You're just collateral damage they already calculated.

You'll run out of services if you violate everyone's AUP / TOS and threats of bashing or reputation harm will fall on deaf ears unless you infringe on their Copyright or Trademark.

Good luck but you'll find it easier to swim with the current. If you use more resources than one provider offers you get a provider that offers more or get two providers. If you think you'll make demands or threaten them you're mistaken.

You talk directly with your competitors? Anyway, they either are lying and do have a DS/VPS (they are your competitors, after all), or they are simply on shared hosting that specifies the max bandwidth they can use, rather than saying "unlimited."
