If the niche is low competition and the CPC is low enough, you can still get away with blasting your site with XRumer. The key is to perfect your anchor text ratios and make sure the blasts are done on a consistent, daily basis.
If you care about the site you shouldn't. IMO the best way to use Xrumer is with buffer sites. You might be able to get away with it if you don't spam your main site with a bunch of links in a short amount of time , especially if it's new.
It's a beast of a software and basically the amount of juice it pushes up to your money site is ridiculous if used properly. I think it would be worth the money if you're experienced in IM and have lots of sites to throw into it.
I think people are too fast to blame Xrumer on bad link strategy and not themselves. Xrumer is one of the most powerful link building tools created in the last 20 years. But people who do not take the time to learn and understand how to use. Fail and then put blame on tool. Not their intelligence.
