Anyone own a succesful E Commerce business?

Because you're paying fee's out the ass with Amazon & eBay. That's money right off the top there. Compared to the percentages people pay for traditional ecommerce you're getting bent over. Plus you're putting your sweat and blood via SEO into strengthening up Amazon, which only gives them more leverage in the future if they want to INCREASE that huge ass fee structure.

You're the digital equivalent of a 1800's share cropper. Making "the man" rich while you struggle and work your ass off for less than you should be making if you didn't owe them so much money and link juice.

Thanks for replying.

Principally, I agree with you. But realistically, personally deciding against using either companies to sell my products will not make a scrap of difference on the scale of things. The only thing that not using this companies would achieve is a smaller balance at the end of the year.

Margins definitely take a hit, but volume and profit have the final say.

In short run, sure they're safe and reliable and give you visibility... but are you really better off there 3-5 years from now? Plus, not controlling your own destiny always made my nervous. I really, really, don't trust eBay and Amazon isn't much better. Seller get the squeeze soon as trouble surfaces historically on the internet.

Just think about this- there are clearly websites in every niche that are 95% organic/repeat business. Whoever owns those are making a killing. That could be you!

still looking for a legit freelancer...will be forever grateful if anyone can help me out :)

I have around 35 clients who do ecommerce sites & average around 350k per month. Some dropship, some sell their own product.

It is not a bad route to go. My recommendation for something if your a smaller business & need an inexpensive ecommerce site to use would be 3dcart.com. They offer some decent prices & from what I have seen/heard, good customer support.

I agree with you this is what we need in the eCommerce world...

Everything is selling well. If it doesnt sell well that means you're the one who is not selling well.

As a e-commerce platform I can recommend you shopify. it's very user friendly and offers a lot of additional apps/plugins. Also their themes are very nice and you can easily set up a professional looking shop.

sounds legit & trustworthy ;)

A lot of the posts on here claiming success seem awfully suspect. Advice on BHW is deep and powerful but to any newbies, be warned, eCommerce sites which actually make money are super rare. You need to do loads of testing and getting traffic to your site is not just about keywords and writing a blog. Most sites have pretty large outflows of PPC. I speak from experience as an under capitalized eCommerce site owner, without paying for traffic, I have almost no sales.
I have had a jewelry store for 11 years and disagree with your post. I started posting on bhw because I was tired of being stomped on in the serps by major corps and chain stores, and I wanted fresh ideas on ranking higher. But that doesn't mean the jewelry store doesn't make money. Nor does it mean that making money with ecommerce is rare. The reasons why people don't make money with a store are because 1) they are terrible at marketing 2) they give up too fast 3) they don't realize that running a successful store is a 24/7 job 4) they don't utilize all the ways to market

There are so many success stories on successful eCommerce Business you can find it on net.

Indian successful and trust worthy store is ecommerce. Amazon is another example of same.

Now a day business are more switching towards Magento platform as this is a SEO friendly open source platform.

not true, but that'll keep em out of your hair ;)

world wide brands has a decent tool that analyses competitiveness and probably of success. Please take the results with a grain of salt. When I started eComm I spent 3 weeks watching every single video, taking scrupulous notes. That's a good starting point.

NOTE*** Like mentioned many many times here in this thread. If you can't rank the site then your likelihood of success is very little (Unless you go for high ticket items with 20-30% markup, risky though if you don't know the space). If you can't rank a regular site for a medium- high competitive phrases, eCommerce is probably not for you.

Been doing ecom for a while now making awesome money. PM me with your questions. Best Wishes.

why wouldn?t you just ask your questions in the thread. What r you waiting for??
