A person can make anywhere between an average of $.50 (Most views outside the US, mobile, poor content quality) to an average of $10 (US views, strong content category, sales, etc) RPM. RPM = Revenue per thousand video views, just for the ads shown before and around the video content. If you add additional links for things like merch/itunes/etc you can double your RPM.
So to clarify, yes a top 500 channel could be making this much. Hope this helps.

I personally find videos discussing accounting great, but that doesn't mean the rest of the world does.
Remember 100 is by definition the average IQ and as much as 36%(iirc) have an IQ of 90-100, 16% 80-100 and 2% 70-100. 100-110 is also 36%, so you're looking at pretty much 90% of the population lying between 70 and 110. Most people with that kind of IQ won't be able to appreciate what you define as "epic film making" and added to that, even people with a higher IQ generally would need to start taking an interest in that kind of art.
Most men around the 90 to 110 range want to see hot/cute/spunky girls with interesting personalities, ie, funny, goofy, a bit weird etc. That's not a bad thing. I think jennamarbles etc is funny, although I don't regularly watch her. It's not "mind-numbing" entertainment and I'm not having a go at the masses intelligence. People are what they are, but rather I'm pointing out why the "epic", more artistic type work isn't as popular.
Yep, it's all fake. bhw is basically just a big mutual jack-off site where we all pretend you can make money on the internet. In reality we all work at McDonalds. There's no money to be made on the Internet. Youtube is just a small site ran in someone's garage and the owners make about $50/week.
Now get back to work, those fries need a-salting.

How about an explanation of the monetization paths for that $30k/mth, and the location of the list of top YouTubers, so we can analyze their videos for emulatable patterns? I think that would be a lot more valuable than mere "inspiration" to start spamming the fuck out of YouTube with shitty powerpoint style affiliate videos like 90% of the WSO's teach.
