Anyone own a succesful E Commerce business?

40K-90K/ monthly sales are all relative. If you sell a 3k product, 20 products a month and you're rocking and rolling. eComm is what you make it. Think big and it'll pay off. It takes WAY too much effort to build/rank an eComm site with a small profit.

ah, now I know why it seems to be hard for me. i have been to adsense and done different ecomm sites but with smaller price of products. and you are right, it takes way too much effort to build one that my profits remained small. hhmm...

Hi everyone. I operate an e-commerce that whose suppliers are solely drop shippers. I sell corsets, jewelry and other stuff for women. My prices are very competitive and my stuff can be found on several shopping comparison sites and many pages are indexed (by google anyway), but I am not really converting. I know I don't have many back links and not many of my items are on page 1. People who find me have done so through comparison sites like thefind or bing. I was looking into payed SEO services, and I googled them but the packages I found are very expensive for me at this stage (thousands). Is this the normal price range for seo service? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on what type or focus of seo service would work for someone trying to get their e-commerce site more overall visibility? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I run a successful eBay shop, but have yet to make great leaps forward with e-commerce, that's what I'm here to learn :)

how do you market your product? :)

I created an e commerce site that earns approx $1000 a day in its peak.

Unfortunately the niche is very seasonal so it does not earn this figure consistently.

However I may be able to help with your questions.

Is Magento still the platform of choice for ecommerce?

And how you handling payment? PayPal/Moneybookers/Authorize.net?

A guy told me his eCommerce site has 8000 products... how to have so many products in my store when i'm only starting eCommerce business?

Im looking to have my onsite SEO redone can someone suggest a freelancer?

I have decided after a year hiatus to redouble my efforts on my ecommerce site but I am finding eyeballs even more precious than they were even a year ago. Before I could just post a product, drop a link on twitter and I got a few hundred hits a day. I'm selling unbranded phone and game accessories so I guess the market has gotten fairly saturated with the Chinese finally learning how to play the seo game well. Anyone here in the same boat? What are some best practices you have found work, besides split testing ppc campaigns. I would prefer to keep it economical if possible.

CSV / Live Data Feeds + Drop-shipping. When I first started out I used a similar setup, 5% markup on the products ... grim.

Regarding the Magento + Wordpress forumla - I use this myself, I've found adding AheadWorks "Knowledge Base" and "Help Desk" to be almost mandatory for the customer experience and when added to the setup/populated, they give the stores a very finished and refined look and feel about them.

Shopify is mad easy to use. Easy to put your inventory on, easy to hook up your paypal. If you're even somewhat savvy, you can get it up in about an hour.

I've been using Shopify for around 6 months now after moving from EKM (What a joke).

I will say that is easy to use and very streamlined. However there are downsides; it's VERY expensive in comparison to other providers. Secondly, it's missing some important functionality when it comes to exporting products to online shop databases and also product/collection control. And finally, you have to pay additional amounts, on top of the already expensive subscription, for a lot of the essential tools.

I wish I went with Magento instead and I'm looking to transfer over in the future.

I make most of my money on eBay and Amazon. However I am going into the e commerce route and
opening my own websites to. The way I look at it is make money from every corner :D

Well, all this info is good to know but what exactly are people making $30k selling? Iphones?

I am going to be running the PPC for a 1million a year company haha there just starting their sales online. I am glad I have nothing to do with the actual site, hopefully people take care of stuff on their end so people convert.

no silver bullet in eComm. Lot's of good content, internal linking, diverse link building/deep linking, and a million anchor txt variations.... should about do it.

$30k/month is easily attainable from insignificant items. To do that you just need $1000/day. You should be making $0.10 per $1 spent by the customer or a 10% commission. Certain niches have usually orders around $80->$100 which is $8->$10 for you. Only need 100 of them a day to be at $30k/month.

Now, 100 orders a day is definitely nothing to scoff at. It's alot when you're just starting out but that's where your marketing strategy comes into play. SEO, PPC, Banners, Upsales, Newsletters, Social media, etc... All of that has to be part of your marketing strategy to make that money. If you're just relying on SEO you will fail. Just PPC? Fail. You need to tap all the resources possible.

Of course you can find one of the golden nugget affiliates where they pay you a 30% commission. Then you just need 33 orders per day and that's much more easily attainable.
