I'm currently trying to sell mobile websites online. The problem is that I can't get past the mockup stage no matter who I talk to. I've tried local, non-local, and international. What happens is that I will seek the potential client or the potential client will seek me out, we will discuss what they want, I present a mockup, and I never hear from them again.

I used to sell non-mobile websites and design and have never encountered that. It is a huge waste of time and I wonder what the problem is. I plan to cold call for the first time today and I'm move nervous about the waste of time problem than I am with talking.

Does anyone have some advice?

I think you might be able to do a better job selling your mockups. Don't just seems them to the client, book a meeting (phone or in person). Explain how your design will work and why you made the choices you did in the design process. Tell them what kind of feedback you need from them if any.

Thanks for the advice. I plan to do phone only tomorrow. I did do what you said(except the phone/meeting part) for online clients; I just don't get why there is zero communication from them after the mockup.

I tried cold calling, it sucks big time and totally put me off.

I had someone on the Warrior Forum giving me advice but all that was him selling local business lists (under a different name) and a mobile simulator for $90 that anyone could buy for 5 bucks. That forum stinks big time.

Honestly, cold calling is not for most people, no matter what these gimps tell you on other forums. I found it very hard to do.

Yeah, I don't expect it to be easy. I'm a shy person, and I keep reading where people make 100-1000 calls and get no where.

I would advice you to create niche landing pages and blast them off with some SEO service. Then use same landing page to advertise on admob like networks. I am earning $300 a day with these kind of pages.

Conversion is 15% But it working for me.
Maybe in the future, but right now I want to do mobile websites only. I know as a consumer, it is irritating when a business does not have a mobile website and I'm trying to access their website on the road.

I have never been able to do any cold calling, but I am good at starting up a conversation in person. Face to face has been the only way to warm up the person to get a meeting. I usually walk in with my phone in hand, strike up a conversation, and in a matter of a few minutes I am showing them their website, and some of my example sites on my smart phone. I am not a good salesman, but I am good at showing my concern for their success. I wish I had the nerves to try cold calling.

The problem is that the owner will contact his "web design guy" - the one who did his website in the first place, or is doing maintanance, hosting the website, etc.. and ask him if he is able to make his website mobile compatible - to which any decent webmaster would say yes, usually at a lower rate than what you charge for. Since the owner trusts his guy more than you, he will give him the job.

you can do is look to do a mockup design so they are portable into all 3 platforms. rule #1. Never ever send a mockup to a customer without a something upfront. you can show him your portfolio let it speak for itself. hope that helps.
