Need some some computer savvy guys

:nerd:hey guys so i have a problem with my windows 7 64 bit laptop, i connect it to my modem via wireless and my friend accidentally unplugged the modem wire and i try reconnecting my laptop and i still cannot access the internet on my laptop but my xbox 360, windows vista 32 bit desktop and phone can connect to the net without any problem.
it says that a device uses the same ip id as the laptop in my home-group, its now telling me that wireless network connection doesnt have a valid ip configuration :nerd:.

The easiest and safest way would be to setup a static network. If its complaining of the same IP, you got shit luck and one of your other devices managed to get the same IP as your laptop (which has a static one?)

Start->Control Panel->Network and Sharing Center->Change adapter settings (Its on the left menu)->Right click your Local Area Connecting->Properties->Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) [select it in the menu, dont uncheck it!]->Properties (right below the menu)
Note: The connection name may be something else as you're using wireless.

If the "Obtain an IP automatically" is selected then:
Change it to "Use the following IP address" with the following settings:
IP: 192.168.1.45
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

If "Use the following IP address" is selected then either:
1) Change it to "Obtain an IP automatically"
2) Change the last digit set to something else, between 1 and 253.


The settings may not be correct though, as I dont know what router you're using. If its linksys that should be fine.

one thing, do i do this on the the desktop connected to the modem or on the laptop?

you can just reset your wireless card or go to
cmd
and do
ipconfig/release
then
ipconfig/renew

if everything else fails, try to reset the wifi router to its factory settings (more than likely you can do that via web interface and there should be a reset option on the hardware too), it will erase every previous settings, so it should solve your IP problem too
after that you need to reconfigure the whole network, keep that in mind
idk how your set up look like, but you might not be able to do it w/o help, if you aren't savvy enough
it may involve configuring a dhcp network, mac cloning and such

Try setting DNS records to:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

I had this issue a while ago, this is not a problem, it can be resolved by reseting the router.
