How to set up remote desktop with your VPS?

Hey there, how is it going? I need some help, as I cant log in remotely to my VPS. Have anyone done it before, and if yes please let me know step by step how.

If you're on windows, open up Remote Desktop Connection (start and type Remote Desktop Connection into search), then just type your server's ip, later you'll need to type username and pass too.

I don't think it's necessary to have remote desktop to control Plesk or something like that. But, if you really need to access in that way you can use RealVNC/Ultra-VNC for windows, and in Linux you can use vnc4server.

Remote desktop is a windows -> windows only thing.

You need to use SSH and commandline to do work on the VPS. For that, you can download Putty (a windows program) to connect to the server. From there you can login using root/[password] and do what you want. If you need to do something specific, use google for the commands.

If you have a linux vps, you won't be able to get a graphical session, you can only get a terminal session, you would have to use ssh for it, on Windows, my favourite ssh client is PUTTY. Correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK, you can't get a graphical session from a vps

VPS on a linux box is simply equivalent to Shell Access

You don't need to be proficient in linux commands to get around your box. So many simple tutorials around the net that will help you get around. You can simply copy and paste most commands.

This really is your only option to connect to your box remotely. I guess in theory you could mount a GUI on a linux box, but it would be an insane waste of resources, and it's completely unnecessary. Everything you can do from a GUI, you can do with command line. This is not the case for a windows box, hence the GUI.
