This started with me today. My site has been page 1 for the toughest word in my niche last 12 months, 6 months before that number 1. Today page 2 at first now page 3. Not sure if its something I have done - 4 of my other phrases also dropped. Personally I dont think its the dance, hope it is but gut feeling is that its a sign of things to come from the g.

The Google updates are just so unpredictable, and they never give a clear/true explanation of what they are looking for with each new algo update.

Google will never publicly state what it is that they are truly looking for. However, it should be pretty clear that all of these updates are geared towards earning Google more revenue.
