SandBox/Banning from Google

I'm a bit new to SEO. One thing that always crosses my mind is how far do you have to go to get yourself banned or as they say SandBoxed from google rank. Lets say I went and bought 4000 backlinks and a couple pings all in one day; what happens?

If done once, you wont get banned or Sandboxed but if you continued to do it, your chance of getting banned continues to go up. Also, buying these links might get you ranked quickly during the Google "Dance" period but you will lose you ranking relatively quickly once they see that you're using Spam links especially after the recent updates that we've seen from the "Big G".

What you did probably wont get you banned. However if you are new to seo, you better learn before you experiment on your site, cause bad practices these days will get you banned
