Should I get a Macbook Pro or a PC?

The 15" Macbook Pro Retina looks gorgeous and has pretty amazing specs. The only problem I have with it is as an IMer, using a Mac may not be too practical even if I use Parallels when compared to a fully fledged Win 8 PC.

Do any of you IMers use a Mac and what problems do you find when trying to use it as your main IM computer?

I'm still deciding between a high end Sony Vaio or the Macbook Pro. Any suggestions would be great and please do share your experience if you've ever owned one as an IMer. Thanks

You are going to have to get a VPS/Dedi for serious tool usage anyway (because of the fat line) so it 's not a decisive factor.

for personal use and show off's you can get macbook pro, but for i'm purpose you have to have PC in hand.

i have brought macbook pro 2 weeks back, 'm just spending less than one hours on macbook and still most of the time on PC.

choice is yours!!

I am not sure what the problem is with IM and macbook pro. I got my macbook pro a month ago and haven't touched my pc laptop since. I have been able to do everything I normally do. What can't you do on a mac that you can do on a pc? I added XP to my mac (for free) and I haven't really used it yet.

I've owned both and prefer PC. Windows 8 is great IMO. A PC will give you more option and you don't have to worry about the clutter of having to go through vmware to do things.

I'm having one, MBP that is, along with one iMac and two Mini servers, they are all running multiple Windows VMs (XP, 7, 2008 Server) and all is easy to maintain... on the other hand upgrading to Win8 is not supported well by Parallels so far (they are working hard on it).

I'll go for Mac ....

While a lot of tools could be used on a vps, I found myself running tools more often on my regular PC. I say go for the PC, if your in IM why limit yourself. You can buy a mac with the money the PC helped you make

This is the one topic my buddy and I debate endlessly. He insists you need a Mac if you want to be taken seriously in the world of graphic design and I insist I can do everything a Mac can do on my PC with about 1/2 the cost and pretentiousness.

In the end it'll come down to whatever your preference is. I've been working in Adobe Illustrator on PC for 10 years. I would be uncomfortable switching at this point.

I do want to quickly add that people who insist on using Macs due to "Stability" have no real bearing. I've never crashed or lost any work on my PC with Windows and/or Adobe.

If you work in-house, there is no much difference between a Mac and PC. I will go for a Mac, coz it is an artwork.

I have two laptops both a Macbook Pro and a PC, the PC is more of a last resort back-up and also if I need to run any exe programs. I function just fine with a Macbook Pro.

I am on a MBP (MacBookPro) and whenever I installed Parallels or VMware, they both were always very laggy for me. Not sure why though, but other than that, I wouldnt go back to a PC. My macs logic board messed up and I had to fix it and it felt like I was lost.

I don't do any coding or anything; I'm purely marketing, copywriting, creating ads and setting up advertising/marketing campaigns. Everything else I outsource. Coding alone doesn't make money (unless you're selling your skill-set), however marketing does.

I'm not a coding kind of guy, I don't enjoy wasting time in that way, I just want to make money. That's it.
